where is my .pln file?

Hi,

So, upon opening archicad it offers a file that i was recently working on to open. If i open that .pln file how do i know where it is? I am used to 'save as' as starting with where that file exist - this does not seem to be the case with archicad. I have searched everywhere - file/info/project info - nothing?

In the File\Open menu the most recently files are listed.
Hover your cursor over any of them and you will see its path in the status bar at the bottom.

If you mean the Start ArchiCAD screen:
For me the file path is shown after each ArchiCAD Project File in the list, when you Select a recent project.

If this is not when you mean, please post a screenshot.

Mine does not show the file path on opening screen - I wish it did.

I am trying to determine the location of the .pln file I have open (currently). How do I identify it's file path? I don't think a screen shot will help - as it is just the project, I want to know where this file exists? (I know this sounds like a ridiculous question but archicad logic is beyond me) I can see the name, but for all I know it is in an autosave folder or other.

The reason I am asking for a screen shot is because I don't know how you open this file. Did your ArchiCAD crash and it is offering and autosaved file when you restart it?
By the way, you can find the location of the Autosave folder in the Data Safety & Integrity page of your Work Environment Dialog.

yes, from autosave per microsoft overnight re-start. but regardless of how the file is opened, should be a way to determine where the currently open file exist?

The file offered to be opened by Autosave is in the Autosave folder. But that is not the original file.
Otherwise you should know where you saved your files.
If you can't find them search for them in Windows Explorer.

If the file comes from an Autosave, no. But in that case you are supposed to know where you saved that file. If you don't know where it is, search in Windows Explorer. The Title bar of ArchiCAD shows the name of the File so you will know what to search for.

If you recently saved that file, it will be in the Recent File list in the File\Open menu, you will see its path in the Status bar.
As soon as you save the file that is open, it will appear at the top of the Recent File list.

If you just start ArchiCAD, the Dialog should show the path for each recent file it offers you to open.

There is one workaround: Place a Text Block and place an Autotext item within the Text Block: in the Insert Autotext Dialog find "File Path" Autotext from the System Category. Even in the Insert Autotext Dialog the Preview field at the bottom will show the path of the file.
But I don't know if that works in case it is an opened Autosaved file. In that case it might show the file path within the Autosave folder, not the original location of the file of the Autosave. In that case, search for it in Windows Explorer.

If this is important for you to see, maybe you can place an Autotext that is always easy to see or bring up so you can always quickly check the file location.
