Thomas wrote:
This guy's signed the NDA, and violated it. He is the one who is doing the betraying. Who he is shouldn't be so hard to find out, just compare his writing style to other recent posts. There are even programs to do that! Delete his post, track him down, ban him from this forum, and sue!

Whoa Thomas! A recent Google search showed that AC10 Beta 3 was available for $20 from various warze sites. I'm sure it's available via bittorrent and other means for free. For better or worse, it's out there. Violating an NDA and downloading a cracked copy out of curiosity are very different things, IMHO (even if both are illegal, immoral, etc). I don't think we have enough evidence to burn him at the stake just yet.

The more interesting issue to my mind is not the morality or supposed sub par character of this poster, but the content of his post. It left me pretty disappointed -as an upgrade, AC 10 sounds like a bust.

Yes, as users in this community we should support Graphisoft in their beta efforts and help them in whatever way we can to release stable, usable tools (this is one reason I bought in on the stupid subscription). This guy has not helped directly in that regard. However, as members of a business community with mortgages to pay and staff to train we should also DEMAND better features, workflow, creativity and usability from the software and better direction and leadership from the company. The pervasive feeling on this list is <S></S>"we use AchiCAD because it sucks less and switching would be way to hard so just learn the workaronds and shut up"<E></E>.

It does not need to be this way. If I was Graphisoft and I was reading this list I would conclude that everything is pretty much peachy. Well, from this longtime user's perspective , IT AIN'T PEACHY. It's pretty terrible. The software feels slow, difficult to use, poorly updated, poorly conceived, sloppily executed and very patched together. As a community I don't think we've articulated this reality as well as we should. There is too much resignation and not enough indignation. Yes, switching is hard, but realize that GS exploits this fact and relies on it. As a user I hate being stuck in that situation.

If this guy's lackluster AC10 beta review helps slap GS in the face (as well as a few complacent users) then he has done much more good than harm.

This is great! Looks like there is feedback on screen while drafting. The floor levels in elevation remind me of Revit. One can clearly see the plotmaker or layout icon on the navigator. Can anyone translate the discussion?

While looking around the net for info pertaining to AC10 I actually saw a link to a pirated AC10 beta... Didn't click it out of principal (among other reasons.. like.. not wanting the FBI to become my new "friends") I'm assuming, Since I can't read russian, that that's where these screens came from.
In reference to AC10 though, the "Complex profiles" tool I keep hearing about seems very exciting, and would solve 50% of my complaints about ArchiCAD, and answer the second question I ever asked here.

cheers,
I sugest, show us (legal user) archi CAD10!
Hi everyone! I can read russian
But I was a little bit surprised of your wonderings... Some weeks ago there was a link (actually I don' remember the original place I've got it) to Graphisoft beta-test page. It seems that now this page is blocked... Anyway there was New Feature List and even Feature Overview in pdf there!

<LINK_TEXT text="http://ac8beta.bt.graphisoft.com/info/n ... res_guide/">http://ac8beta.bt.graphisoft.com/info/new_features_guide/</LINK_TEXT>
Try it maybe it will work

P.S. nothing interesting in that russian discussion... "wow", "ooh" and so on

Between the 2 sneek previews of AC 10 (Spanish & Russian), it looks like it maybe addressing some fundamental issues of the past. I'm looking forward to it. Some of the things that I see are:

Plan ht. cut for walls
Angled and tapered walls
Profile management
Plotmaker integration
Simplified layer management
Merge different walls into single walls
Add footings and trim to walls
Locking elements of some sort
Element Schdule schemes
Walls showing across stories or at plan cut ht.
Elements above plan cut can be dashed

I don't know than what I could glean but again am looking forward to 10!

Did you see anything about multi-material or compound walls where the skins or materials can start at different levels? Imagine the plywood sheathing and siding skins going down below top of slab to cover the rim joist - just like in real life

There's no such thing as a "legal" key for Archicad 10.

Either you are a licensed Beta tester under contract with Graphisoft (including Non-disclosure agreements) or you are using an illegal copy (as noted in the End User License that you must agree to upon installation).

The very preliminary beta file was accidentally exposed due to a temporary security loophole. During installation, the user still must agree to the license terms, which begin as shown in the screenshot below. As noted, there, only people who have signed an appropriate agreement with Graphisoft are 'legally' to install the software.
During installation, the user still must agree to the license terms, which begin as shown in the screenshot below. As noted, there, only people who have signed an appropriate agreement with Graphisoft are 'legally' to install the software.

I doubt if a Russian language legal disclaimer would be valid in the US....so why would an English disclaimer carry any weight in non- English speaking countries?

Because an End User License Agreement is not a disclaimer. It's a licensing agreement. Clicking "OK" means I am agreeing to the terms set forth in the agreement. It's my obligation to understand those terms before clicking "OK".

It's not much different than signing a contract. If I sign a contract in another language, I have still agreed to it. I'm the one at fault for not doing my due dilligence in understanding what I am agreeing to.

"I didn't understand" is rarely, if ever, a valid legal defense.
