I am curious to see ways that other people create site plans, as I think there is a lot of different ways that can work.

Erika's way is one way I have used in the past, using multiple saved views and placing on layouts.

I have also used different layer combinations and cut plans to get elements to show on the relevant storey.

<T>Hi, I am using the Australian template and would like to know the best way to go about setting up a view for a site plan. For example, so that the view is showing the roof plan plus the site and planting. Any advise appreciated.</T>

One way is to have two drawing overlaid on your layout. One is the site plan story set to your Site Plan Layer Combination. On top of it you can have a Roof Plan drawing set to your Roof Plan Layer Combination.

This works well when your roof story is not on the same story as the site plan.

If however you want to show the exterior walls with just a dashed line showing the roof outlines, then you can trace the roof outlines on a Site Plan specific Layer.

It all comes down to what you want to show.

Hi TiggerF,

In the case you described I mostly use 3D Document option with Show Down to stories option. Give it a try.

Here's an example:

Scotty,
After building the model I go & select all the roof's & change their home storey to 'site'. Then I change there distance 'to project zero' so they are still siting in the correct position.
That way I have the roof's in the correct position on the model & appearing on the 'site' storey to complete the site plan.

You can do this is one step: select the Roof, right-click to get the context menu, and select Relink Home Story..., this will bring up a dialog box that allows the user to change the element's Home Story without changing its height relative to Project Zero.
Right, the Home Story has been changed, so the Roof may only be visible on its Home Story. Select the Roof (go to its new Home Story to see the Roof, or select in the 3D Window) and look at Roof Settings > Floor Plan and Section > Show on Stories, there are options for showing the Roof on more than its Home Story.
One option is to create a 3D Document. Go to Parallel Projection Settings, set to Top View, set the Camera Azimuth to 270˚, and open the 3D Window, you should have a top down view of the model. Now right-click and select New 3D Document from 3D... and create a 3D Document from the 3D Window.
I create a 3D view looking down onto the site. Use the plan icon in the 3D menu.

Then create a 3D document and adjust the settings for colours, vector fills and shadows to give you the style you want. Maybe use a graphic override to change the presentation further if you want. You can then use text, labels, dimensions and levels and everything is live linked to the model
