I connected the reference line, so for instance if i make an L it will offset when moving the vertical, and if i make a C it will offset, but if i make an E it will leave the center line behind and just move a C even though the reference line connected.

<R>Hi, im learning archicad and watching tutorials which shows a feature that i cant find in archicad, the offset edge, when working with two walls to move one wall while staying connected to the other,

Tutorial

My archicad:

Im doing exactly the same thing, select both walls holding shift and select the green double line side of one wall while dragging but the offset is the only button missing. Ive tried edit>reshape>offset but this does nothing. On archicad 20 windows 7.</R>

You need a node at the ponit of intrsection or the walls have to be connected end to end.

A bit more explanation: those command you see in the Pet Palette (the little Palette that offers those editing commands) are two types:
1. the top row are polygon editing commands - the modify a segment or node of a polygon. (They can also contain other commands that modify the geometry of the element).
2. the bottom row are element editing commands - they affect the whole element: move, rotate, etc. it

2 or more selected Walls are considered by ARCHICAD to be a polygon (on which polygon-editing commands can be performed) only if they form a continuous polygon (which is not true in your case, but is true in the Tutorial).

Thanks, it works now with a corner wall, but why is a center wall not a continuous polygon but a corner wall is?

edit: Im trying the connect option when adding additional x axis walls to the y axis wall but it does not allow it, the x axis walls will not connect to the corner wall.

You have to watch the Reference Lines (the thick line when you select the Wall) of those Walls because those are the ones that have to be continuous.

This is because it considers only those segments that fall on a continuous polyline to be part of the polyline or polygon on which the polygon editing operations are performed. The horizontal wall at the T-joint does not fulfil this condition even thought it is selected.
I know in Revit such Walls are automatically extended to preserve the connection but ARCHICAD does not work that way.
In ARCHICAD if you wish to preserve such connections you should draw a Marquee around the element nodes you wish to move and use the Stretch command (CTRL + H in the INT version).
