topic Auto Intersection in Modeling

<T>Is there a way to permanently turn off Auto Intersection?

Every time I start ArchiCAD I end up turning it off once it automatically connects a wall in the way I don't want. At the end of the day I close ArchiCAD, shut down computer and next day it's turned on again (the Auto Intersection).

I've tried saving the Work Environment many times, it just won't stick.</T>

I think the state of On-Screen View Options (including the Clean Wall & Beam Intersections toggle) is a Project-specific setting, not a Work Environment settings.

But this also means that it should be saved with the Project and its state should be remembered by ARCHICAD when it later reopens the file.
So if that does not happen then it may be a bug.

I tried it and it works for me.

You can try one thing: since it is a Project-specific setting, every time you start a new Project it will start it based on the Project settings stored in the Template file you choose for your new project. So in theory you could open the Template file, change this setting, then resave the Template file under the same name.
From there on new Projects file based on that Template file should have this toggle turned off by default.

I prefer to draw the reference lines as I want them to be (sometimes I do not want them to connect as it leads to unwanted results in 3D), so I keep turning it off. Every day again.

I see, you mean the Options\Auto Intersection menu option.
I think that is also supposed to be a setting that is saved with a Project, not a setting that is saved with the Work Environment.
But I tried both and it seems to me that it is not saved with either.

So this is probably a bug that the state of the Auto Intersection toggle is not saved with the Project.
I will report this to GRAPHISOFT.

I can confirm it is the same on the Mac although I can't find anything in AC help to explain the option!

Are you perhaps looking for the legacy intersection toggle in Project Preferences which does stick (on Mac) and basically turns off Priority Based Connections?
<LINK_TEXT text="http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/guides ... eferences/">http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/guides/archicad-19-int-reference-guide/user-interface-reference-2/dialog-boxes/project-preferences-dialog-boxes/legacy-preferences/</LINK_TEXT>

Not sure if turning it off is a good thing at this stage, I can see how it might help with some of the more frustrating complex connections but I do like things done for me which seems to work well most of the time.

No, as clarified I mean the Options > Auto Intersection button.

It makes reference lines of walls automatically connect to existing reference lines of other walls if you draw close to them.

This option should be stored in the file. We added a bug about this phenomenon and we plan to fix this in a future ARCHICAD19 Update.
