Thank you for the response Szabolcs. I've created many symbols over the years, so I understand the process well. What I'm struggling with is specifically a herringbone pattern of custom sizes. I can't seem to understand how to create a repeatable pattern where I can apply logical X and Y shifts.

Any idea how to create a custom herringbone pattern, specifically?

I have Brick-Herringbone which I believe is one of the standard fills. Be aware that you can define what fills can be used as Drafting fills, Cover fills and Cut fills, so if you have the wrong option selected in your fill settings you might not be looking at your entire list.

Hi, Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I can't figure out how to make a custom herringbone pattern. I've tried everything I can think of in the symbol fill settings, but am at a loss. I can't figure out the x1/y1 and x2/y2 settings.

I need a herringbone pattern for a floor tile of 48"x 7 1/4" and for 36" x 3".

Can someone show me how to do this? My heart is telling me this should be easy, my brain is disagreeing.

Hi, at the moment this is the best article describing how to create a custom symbol fill: https://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/user-guide/77005/
but you could also try according to this video which shows the entire workflow, similar to what you need:
