Detailing In ArchiCad v7

Unfortunately the only version I have access to is V7. I would like to be able to cut an area from a section drawn at, say 1:100, transfer that portion of the section to another sheet or elsewhere on the same sheet, and reproduce it at 1:10 for instance then add additional detail and notes specific to that portion of the section.

I realise most subscribers are probably using later versions with more advanced capabilities, but any help would be appreciated.

i would just have different layers for the 1:10 text or additional detail and save the view at 1:10- there wouljd be a lot of section not used but it worked.

Thanks for your help but do I need the Marquee tool to lift the image? If so how do I rescale and transfer it?

Save it as a new QuickView.

Does Publisher ring any bells?

Took your advice and saved a Quickview, but I still want to transfer it to a new location, alter the scale, possibly delete some elements and add more detail and notes that don't appear on the section the Quickview was derived from.

what I was suggesting is you DONT relocate it. just add more notes and detail to suit on a suitable layer

This help you have received is what you need. Maybe you are not understanding. Create an new Section (the marker can be on a hidden layer if you like). Change the Limits and distances of the section cut if desired. After setting the Display properties, preferences and Scale save the Section as a Quickview Publish as a PMK an add to PM. If you could get a copy of PM 3.1 (which distributed with AC 8.1) you could skip the PMK step and link the Section directly from AC PLN file.

I hope this makes things clear. It has been quite some time since I was on AC 7.0 ( and that was my first Version) and I began using PM 3.0 (released w/ buggy AC 8.0) which was way better than PM 2.3. I was still using PMK with PM 3.0 for a while, but even with AC 7 I began Linking PLN views directly to PM 3.

I would recommend upgrading to AC 9 of course, but if that is too much $ to lay out at this time I would look into trying to just purchase a PM 3.1 if at all possible.????

I think I've finally got this figured. It may not be the only way to do it but it works. Thanks for all the suggestions and advice:
1. Create a brand new project called Details.
2. Go back to the original project and do a mini section with limited parameters as suggested by Jay, and save it.
3. Use the Marquee tool and copy and paste the limited section to Details.
4. In Details you can modify as required without feedback to the original project.

Of course this works, but it loses contact with the building model. The other two methods described will keep the link. The method of creating a separate, limited section for the detail also allows you to edit the drawing without resorting to special layers or worrying about the overall section.

I have used all three methods and each has their pros and cons. The separate file method is best for generic or typical details or in cases when the detailer (Architect) is not proficient in AC. For project specific details I recommend one of the other two methods to maintain the model relationship.

(Of course, once you upgrade you will have the detail tool )
