Do you have the layer that the beam is on set to wire frame
in the layer setting ?

<T>Can anyone address my issue of having shaded columns and wire frame beams? How is it possible to have both in a single 3D view? Might my file be corrupt or is there a inherent setting in my structural beams that would display them as wire frame when everything else appears as shaded objects?</T>

That was totally it, we had the layer set to wire frame. I forgot about that setting as an option in the layer settings. Thank you for the fix!
