James wrote:

Bricklyne wrote:
Can you pull out the "tabs" and have them floating as opposed to pinned or docked, just like you can with regular web browsers?

Windows: There are no major UI changes other than the introduction of the Tab Bar. Therefore it is still not possible to undock a window outside of the frame - same overall behaviour as per AC18.

Mac: Any Tab can be undocked from the unified window, therefore you can have the main framed window in full screen mode (or not, as you wish) and any number of undocked windows on a separate display.

I understand that.
I understand on the Windows side of things we can't have any ArchiCAD windows outside the ArchiCAD main window frame (and by extension no multi-window/multi-display capability. And I'm still not clear if this is a limitation within Windows itself, or is a PC hardware issue, that Mac users don't have to be subjected to or if we'll ever get it at all in Windows, ever.)

I was asking WITHIN the ArchiCAD window frame (obviously on a single monitor or display), are all the windows/views locked on to the Tab Bar, or can we still minimize (section/elevation/worksheet etc)windows or have them in the background or are they now all forced and locked on to the Tab Bar by default and with no alternative.

Do you understand what I mean?

The way browsers work is that you can pull tabs outside the Tab Bar, but when you do that you're essentially pulling the tab outside the Browser window frame and effectively creating a new window (that can then be pulled to a separate monitor, if need be. Clearly that's not possible on ArchiCAD (at least with PC versions) due to the aforementioned multi-display limitation.

Likewise, on a browser, I can't pull out a tab from the tab bar and still have it floating within the (single) Browser window frame, like you can have separate windows in the ArchiCAD window frame with the various views you're working with. So does it mean that by adopting the Tab Bar logic of web browser interfaces, we will also lose this old characteristic of ArchiCAD (which was really a function of AC limitation more than anything) and now have one more constraint to have to adapt to?

I hope the update of archicad 19 new improvement will bring a software architecture with its projection problem is severe (boolean does not work on 2D plane, gsm object located on several floors do can not be cut in the plane 2d this is serious) you should see the problem in front and adjust I'm tired of circumventing the brobleme
Then you will be pleased to here that the 1 Label per element limitation is gone and you can attach as many Labels to any element as you wish.
The Labels have been reworked to display specific types of information about elements since now you no longer have to squeeze all kinds of info into one Label.

Yes. These new labels are going to change the way I do many things. They have the potential to make many things that were difficult much easier and reduce the amount of typing out notes for details. They are going to be used in ways no one has thought of yet. The multiple labels for a single object mean you can have one for ID #, one for a note that is off to the side, one that has everything you could ever want to know about the object.... many very cool things for use almost very where in the program. Very nice in 3D documents. I have samples to show but probably should not do that until after authorized to do so.
This should get you all excited for 19. Very good stuff is coming! Don't blow your software budget on other software until you have seen 19. I have no idea, but I expect it to come out about the same time as last year. ? I wish they would tell us so we can plan and budget for the new release better.

The tabs all change to the current layers and MVO of the view you have current.
Just like all your open windows do now.
But the TAB (so long as it is a view from the view map and not the project map) will have a triangular warning symbol on it to say it is not showing with its default settings.
Then a simple double click on the TAB will restore its original settings.
Just to clarify:
Single-click on a Tab is like using the Project Map in the Navigator: view is seen with the current layer, MVO, etc. settings
Double-click on a Tab is like using the View Map in the Navigator: view is seen with its stored View Settings
The icon in the Tab matches the Navigator icons
So you can navigate with the Tabs the same way you can navigate with the Navigator
You only can have one floor plan tab open. Many sections, elevations, 3D, drawing sheets, etc, but you can't have .. say floor one and floor 2 open at the same time. You can't have floor 1 framing and floor 1 electrical open at the same time. You always have to have the floor plan open.
