<T>While working in 9 and opening up a project previously converted from v7 I get the following error;
"The cache library could not be fully synchronized with the source library. Please check the report window for details."

"Cache Library synchronization problems:

2 library parts from the source library failed to be updated in the Cache Library:"

I cleared my cache libraries and tried re-loading again but same results. Also none of the model is visible and none of the tools function. is there a way to find out what files cannot synchronize and delete them?</T>

David,
How do you mean that all of the wall, slabs and objects are missing?

Is just in this particular project that has been converted from ArchiCAD 7 or is even after you have done a "New & Reset" in ArchiCAD 9?

What you could try is a "Forward Merge" Do a "New & Reset" them simply merge your ArchiCAD 7 project into the new and reset document.

A little more info about your problem would be good too.

Cheers.
Hi Ben,
The more detailed description which applies specifically to this one project. ArchiCAD function wonderfully otherwise both v7 and v9; rather than follow any conversion protocol, a few weeks ago I simply created a new copy of a v7 project and opened the new copied v7 project with v9. ArchiCAD is great and the program asked about converting corner windows to v8 and wanted me to help it find some of my library objects that I had place in other directories. The project opened but with the warnings I posted earlier but everything seemed to work just fine. Everything was there and I was working on a simple presentation set only and so started stripping down all unnecessary info - sections, notes, cameras, etc. I guessed that any objects that could not be synchronized with the cache library would be deleted. I sent the simplified plan to plotmaker and was done. I cannot remember exactly the sequence of events however after a few days and client input, I had tweaked the plan and re-sent to plotmaker. Plotmaker could not update. Went back to Archicad and saved new views. The screen refreshed and all the Archicad windows and tools are there but the walls and model that I had been working on showed only blank windows in all views - plan, 3D, sections. Selecting any tool and trying to create a new wall, object, slab, etc., does not function. Cannot even draw a marque. (now you've don it!!)

I am not familiar with a forward merge. Would I do a new and reset and then bring the above project into the new v9 project? or new and reset and then bring the original v7 project into the new v9 project. I have a glimmer of hope that I can somehow recover the work I have done on my presentation plan. If not, lesson learned in converting. Certainly not a major crisis but am always wanting to know more.
thanks,

Hi David,
I would first try with the existing ArchiCAD 9 project that you are having problems with, if it works, you won't have to redo your work.

HTH.
Well this looks like it is turning into a much needed upodated refresher in library management. I performed a "New and Reset" and received the attached warning. I merged the presentation project and the backup copy with ArchiCAD working fine now however the project is still missing. The .bpn file size is 15 meg and the .pln is inly 1.5 meg so that data is probably lost. Merging in a fresh copy of a v7 project works fine with some missing library objects.
Should I clear my cache first?

David,
The master GDL can happen when library parts of the same name come from different editions of archicad. Several releases back Graphisoft US started posting on their technical resources website
tr.graphisoftus.com
pla's of past libraries starting with AC6. The library parts in these plas had their names altered so that when loading them with other AC libraries the often problematic (crashing) sometime fatal MASTER_GDL___.... errors won't occur. These naming conventions have made our library management far simpler as well as allowing one to continue working with a file started in an older version of AC and still take advantage of new features and use simultaneously parts from the newer library. Keep the old parts and continue on with the new. replace old ones at your leisure.

You could look in your library report to find the location of the duplicate parts. Easier, and probably more useful in the long run is to

1. download the AC7 library pla from
tr.graphisoftus.com
2. load it, along with your AC9 library (see screen shot). You may want to start fresh with a new copy of your AC7 file. You can use parts from whichever library best suits your purpose. with no compatibility problems.

Let us know how it goes.

Great info here. Such a powerful program with so much to learn. This will take some time as I still need to "get the work out" but I will come back to this and see what I can learn.
Thank you!
