<T>I have placed these TJI beams in a plan view and they don't show on any stories with the layer on, but they all show on the section. I am baffled as to why. I have tried changing many settings. Any suggestions?</T>

I am having problems with the beam tool. I just placed another generic rectangular beam that will not show in any layouts. A warning said that it will be placed on another story other than the one I drew it. but it is not on another story. all layers are on. It shows in section and 3D.

I am convinced there is a setting that I am overlooking. Please help.

They were placed with the beam tool. I found a beam that was showing on plan correctly and grabbed sucked up its parameters and changed to the TJI profile and that worked. Then I looked at the parameters of the beam that would not show on plan and manually changed them to be the same as the one that did show on plan, BUT that did not help. I carefully went through all the settings that I could see from the beam tool and all were identical, yet one beam shows on plan while the other does not. Using the eye-dropper tool and injecting the invisible beam would fix it. There must be a hidden parameter that is causing the difference? IDK. Maybe I can export the two sets of beams and upload the file, Monday, for others to mess with.

Does the beam show in one plan view and not in another, or in the same plan view?
If it is showing and not showing in different plan views, check the "Floor Plan Cut Plane" definitions for each view.
If it is showing and not showing in the same plan vies, check the story associated with each beam.
Hope that helps.

The beams that show and not show are in the same plane and elevation and nothing I do to change plan view settings will show the hidden beams in plan.
Barry.

I did.
There are Four sections in the Beam Tool Selection Settings window that control the Beam Properties that effect its visibility and the fifth one is just for Classification information.

-Beam
-Segment
-Hole
-Floor Plan and Section

Of these four sections, the information filled in for both the visible and invisible beams is identical. AND the Renovation status is set to "New Construction" for both.

Both beams show in the section. Both beams have the same Home Story. Both beams have the same elevation. There is virtually nothing different about both beams accept one shows on the floor plan and one does not. They of course have different IFC Property IDs as does every object. But other than that, they are the same.
