<T>Hello fellow expert users,

something has been bothering me for long time and finally decided to vent it out.
When I model in 3D I always struggle to keep the cursor on the axis or angle I chose to and pressing 'shift' does not help at all. I've taken a short video to show what I mean.
What am I doing wrong? This can't be right!

Cheers in advance.

..just realized I can't upload videos here 😕 tried to rename the file but it's too large (13Mb)

Hope you know what I mean.</T>

The shift constraints and snap guides should work in 3D just the same as they do in plan.

Can you share the movie in cloud share (i.e. Dropbox or similar)?
Ah, I see you have the 'surface snap' active (the grey rectangle around the cursor as you move over surfaces).

This should not affect the shift constraint when you hold the shift button, but is will affect the guide snap as it thinks you actually want to snap to a surface instead.

Try turning the surface snap off (in the View menu) and see if that makes a difference.

Thank you very much for your interest and suggestion Barry.
You got me excited for a brief moment, but nah, doesn't make any difference for the better.. actually I think it makes it even worse. A cloud icon appears and stops me from snapping to specific points and even the main X,Y axis are impossible to visualize, let alone lock to them.
<LINK_TEXT text="https://www.dropbox.com/s/v4sp0dlojv8sr ... m.mov?dl=0">https://www.dropbox.com/s/v4sp0dlojv8srwj/Screen%20Recording%202020-09-18%20at%2012.16.48%20pm.mov?dl=0</LINK_TEXT>

That could be because you are in Perspective 3D.
It could also be because your model is far from the Project origin? (I am not sure about that).
Try switching to Axonometric 3D to see if that makes a difference.
Hi Claudio,

Thank you for sharing the issue and I am very sorry about the experience!

Unfortunately, the first video seems to be deleted. Could you reshare it somehow so that I can understand what it was about? Based on the description, I was unable to replicate the issue from scratch with a brand new file.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
Best regards,
Barry, it would appear that if I work on parallel view (axonometry) is much better, however I find impossible working in 3D with axo as I find myself keep spinning around looking for the points I need to snap on, whilst in perspective I have a much better control of the lens and field captured. Additionally the view is more realistic and feedback more immediate I think.
That is funny because I think the exact opposite.
The only advantage I find with perspective 3D is you can effectively zoom inside a model.
But I just find it awkward.
Each to their own.

Another thing I have noticed while setting up for version 24, is if the MEP routing palette is open, (and you are not doing anything with the MEP tools), the snap guides do not work properly while placing walls and other elements in plan - seems fine in 3D.

Hi Claudio,

Thank you very much for the video!

Similar to what Barry said, it looks like the cursor was trying to snap to a nearby object. I'm wondering if you pick a less "busy" node - like top edge of the object/wall, does the problem still happen?

Sometimes the camera angle could play some part in this. Maybe you could try to set up a different camera and see if this works?

If the above suggestions do not help, then I would like to get the file for replicating the issue in-house. Let me know if you need a secure place to upload the file!

Best regards,
THANK YOU Minh.

Tried, still not working. I've taken another video now, this morning seems even more unrealistically unworkable. There must be something wrong in what I'm doing.
I have taken videos of me trying to hold either X or Y axis with no success in both perspective view (using 2 different lens angles) and axonometry. Can upload for you together with the latest pla file.
If you could provide us with a secure place for the upload would be fantastic.
