Do a search for the Grid object and try it out. I don't know if your engineer will be able to edit it but its flexible and fairly easy to manipulate.

Curtain walls editing

<T>Hi - I am having a lot of trouble with editing curtain walls;

I am using the curtain wall tool to make a suspended ceiling , but while I am dragging the grid origin around I cannot seem to snap to anything outside the grid object - which is the only practical way to achieve the alignments I am looking for

I am also having a lot of trouble space clicking to form holes in the middle of the ceiling, even though I can space click to create the outer boundary of the ceiling.

The process of manually creating a hole by deleting and dragging transoms and mullions around in the ceiling grid, as required for the hole to align with elements outside the ceiling (i.e. walls etc) is excruciating.

There is also an unexplained reference line offset in plan from edge of ceiling, even though the offset is set to zero in object properties.

How can I overcome all the above?
Is there a better tool for creating ceilings, complete with holes & with light fittings and other panel types etc that move with the ceiling grid origin?

Whatever tool I use will need to be editable by the HVAC engineer on the job, who wants to sign in to the teamwork model & run his ducts, position extracts grilles etc though the ceiling.

Any help very gratefully received!</T>

Both offer some solutions for suspended ceilings.

Thanks guys.

I certainly found some good detailed ceiling objects on BimObject - though nothing that integrates light fittings, grilles, sprinklers etc, allows holes, missing tiles etc, etc

A generic but much more versatile object seems to be the ManuBIM Ceiling Editor object http://www.manubim.com/en/content/ceiling-editor-v2
- though I found 3D bugs with the grid when running it under AC18 (it seems to have been written for AC16)
