If it is not consistently doing it then I think it may be the way you are hitting the keys.

CTRL+D will drag but if you somehow manage to hit CTRL again you will activate the drag a copy (you will see a small + symbol next to the cursor).

Once drag is activated the CTRL key will toggle on/off the copy every time you hit it again.

<T>I have been a PC user since 1990 and never had this problem. Now using both version 18&19 the cntrl+d shortcut produces a dragged copy instead of drag only.
has anyone had this problem and how do I correct it.</T>

What is the keyboard shortcut set as in your Work Environment?
Drag a copy should be CTRL+SHIFT+D by default.
thanks for your reply Barry.
My problem is Cntrl+D is not consistently producing a drag result but is dragging a copy. Sometimes the Cntrl+D works as a simple drag, but depending on how I hit the D key it is dragging a copy which is making for double work on such a basic move.
I have modified my Drag a Copy to F3 instead of the default.

thanks again Barry, I think you are right, it depends on how I hit the D key.
Funny that this problem has only started once I began using 18.
Very interesting about the feature of hitting the Cntrl key a second time once you activate the Cntrl+D will activate the drag a copy.....never knew about this one before.
Where did you read about this feature....got any more of these gems?

Much aloha Barry for being so helpful.

RichYoung wrote:
Where did you read about this feature....got any more of these gems?

It would have been touted as a new feature back in at least version 12 - may have been earlier.
I'm sure it is in the reference manual - but who reads that?
Especially not the bits you think you already know.

If you are just selecting single elements then you don't even need to select then let go of the mouse button then CTRL+D.
Just select and hold the mouse button while you start to drag.
Then you can let go of the mouse and click for your final position.
Add a quick CTRL before the final click if you want a copy.

Also when you have dragged to where you want to go you can right mouse click and choose 'Drag Here' or 'Drag a Copy Here'.
