You can also stretch the base height in the 3D window or adjust it in the info box.

<T>I use the mesh tool to create contours and start with an AHD storey, and work up from there. How do I remove or reduce the long column of earth created when my site ground level is high? We have a 1400 m high mountain nearby. If I build on the top of that my 3D model will sport a 1400 m high column of earth - which is very disruptive!</T>

Kees,
do not use and AHD storey, just set AHD in the Project prefereneces to the ground floor level, if sharing models via IFC make sute you use the survey point object and option in IFC export to set up shared coordinates data.
