I say sections, but the renders would be more appropriate on my elevations. How do i create these or will i only get hidden line sections?</T>

You can set individual sections/elevations to render shadows and 3D hatching.

You could use 3D Cutplanes in the 3D window, set up an orthogonal view or 1-point perspective view, then photorender... Very effective technique.

For the Section/Elevation effects:
In the Section/Elevation Settings dialog look under the "Model Effects" drop-down tab.

You can get vectorial shading as David advised.

You can also get the same view point in the 3D window, cut the model using the cutplane or, better, Special menu - Use setion tool in 3D, copy the construction elements polygons over to the Section/Elevation window.

You can also render, and place the rendering in the S/E window behind your S/E - but be sure to get the sizes right.

Clear or ... ?

When I try this method, the pasted elements have different colors than my 3d window. Is there some setting to make them show as the same?

you need to enable it in your work environment profile. the good news is that it doesn't have to take up any more space along the menu bar because you can put where you like: i have it as a sub-menu of the 'Extras' menu.
Options>Work Environment...>Command Layout Schemes/Menus

make sure that you have 'All Menus by Alphabetical Order' in the left-hand well, scroll down to 'Special' and click add to the menu or sub-menu of your choice in the right-hand well.

i think that you do also need to enable it as well as put it in your WE. instructions for special menu 9 here.
