<T>Sorry for putting this item here. Where have all the other sections gone?

Anyway, I need to make footings the same material as concrete slabs so that I can combine them without a join. I can select surface materials but building materials are greyed out and I can't access it. Why is it greyed out? How can I activate it?</T>

Still there as far as I can see.
I have moved this post to the 'Working in Archicad section' and I have deleted the duplicate post in the 'Construction Wishes'.
Do you mean it is greyed out in the Profile Manager as you try to edit the profile or is it greyed out in the wall or beam settings as you try to place or edit the footing?
When you select a fill in the profile editor is it still greyed out?
It only becomes active when you have a fill selected.

Then you should have the choice of applying the Building Material as set in the fill settings dialogue (or Info Box) which will use the surface set in the BM settings or you can apply a single surface material to all edges that can be different to the material set for the building material.
Of course then you can also override the surface material for individual edges of the fill by selecting the pet palette option on the fill edge.
