Maybe CER1980 could offer a few tips if you PM him.

<LINK_TEXT text="http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/vie ... hp?t=49254">http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=49254</LINK_TEXT>

Not sure he ever modelled the flutes though.
Morphs probably the way to go there.
I would love it if someone smarter than me could show me how a morph can make this shape. If I could even make just one flute, the rest is easy. But the flutes obviously have the curvature of the shell, a changing dimension from the base to the top, a changing radius from the base to the top. It is not clear how to make that happen with a morph.

A shell would work, if you could make it bow for he curvature of the flutes, but as of yet, I have not found a way to do so.

I don't think this will help with the fluted shell but it is very interesting to see what can be done with the morph tool.
You will have to keep pausing/replaying to work out how it is done.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQKm2-cT_QM

There is another video I am trying to find which is one of those designer orange juicers.
The top of that could possibly be used to make the inverse shape to cut the flutes you want.
I'll keep looking.

Here it is...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNDxfCnRyXs

Imagine the top of that juicer rotated and used as the negative to cut your shell.

I have made the juicer before (a long time ago) but I am not sure how hard it would be to get the exact semi-circular flutes that you want without trying it again.
If I find the time to play and have any success I will let you know.
I had forgotten about the orange juicer video. I might be able to make that work. Of course today the client decided that they didn't want flutes in the shell. Still it would be good to know how to do it for the future...or when they change their mind again.

Erich,......
think of the "flutes" as negative space.
you could make a mass, say a corner cube with 3' x 3' x3' size.
then make another object using the morph command to take on the shape of the "negative" space of the flutes.
Then, position the "negative" space object to intersect with the "mass".
Then, use the "SEO" tool, subtracting the negative space object from the mass.
Then, look at the object in 3D. It will then only show you the mass cube with the subtracted flutes.
Then, while still in 3D, go to the "SAVE OBJECTS AS" in the library parts and it'll create what you need in 2d/3D
Now...mind you it won't be parametric in the number of flutes you can add or change but, you'll have that shape.
