AC21 - Layer Naming? Double "hubboy"...

guys...@GS....
I just opened up the "Commercial.tpl" file for AC21....and noticed....the layering naming convention....you guys are killin' me.

A-WALL-EXTR
A-WALL-INTR
A-CLNG
A-COLS........

WHAT happened to the layering convention from AC20? seriously......guys.....man.

You can always just open an ArchiCAD 20 Template and save it as a 21 Template if you want to use the version 20 layers. What your looking at is probably the layer names in the Commercial Template rather than the layer names in the Residential Template. ??

I prefer to name the layers for exactly what you want it to be called in the Interactive Schedules. And the layer file extension is what I use to show what Story it is on. The Layer Keys are named for each Drawing, or Special View.

You need to open an "older" version of the software and can not simply use the OTB layer naming convention in the software?....really?

Again...EPIC FAIL my friend.....you add a 'railing tool' that hard as #@!! to operate, then no tutorials, then GS changes the entire "layer naming convention" in AC21? and there's no "Residential template" in AC21?

my brain is gonna explode today......(whew).

Sorry to disappoint you but the tool is not worth trying to configure yet.

They don't have even the names of the stair parts correct. Where is the Carriage? Try to configure the beams as they call them with a thrust block at the bottom and a ledger at the top. It can't even put the nosing on the nose of the tread if you edit it. It puts it on the wrong edge, or on both the front and back edge.

They need first to consult an American Carpenter to show them how a typical Stair is build, and what the names of the parts are.

Another good source is a stair manufacture to understand what needs to be shown in a good set of fabrication plans and details.

Rob Thallon is from Eugene, Oregon so naturally I am accustom to the way he has written the book. Very good source if you ask me.

If you're able to work with the OTB template without any customization -- good for you. Layer names are a minor issue.

Great book -- I own a copy; however, we deal mainly with steel stairs, and "Stringer" is comparable to "Carriage." I'm just glad they're calling the treads "Runs" instead of "Goings" as in the Help -- of course, a little consistency would help.

In ArchiCAD Stair Tool speak, Beam is the same as the Carriage in Carpenter speak. However, most Carpenters use the term Stringer when they refer to the Carriage.
