I have spent much time trying to learn how to use offset modifiers and tested it on my brick veneer building but I can’t tell if it is working correctly or not ? I created a vertical modifier with a round anchor point under my brick skin. Then I saved it, then I selected my wall and applied it on my section view, the blue line does show up when I select the wall to stench it but I think the whole wall is being stretched not just the brick skin. What am I not executing correctly, do I stretch it in the 3D window or do I do something else ?

Hi, just asking the home designers amongst us.

What do you find to be the best way to model a brick veneer structure ?

Is it best to create a full composite wall with the external wall structure and the timber frame combined ? Or to have the external brick skin modeled independently from the inner timber frame ?

Remembering that the inner timber frame wall will be load bearing and built higher than the external brick skin in most typical cases.

Keep in mind that the external brick skin will also be set down into a slab rebate.

You really don't want 2 separate walls - openings become a nightmare.

Why not use a complex profile wall.

With modifiers, you can even adjust the height and width of each skin and also for extras like footings as well if you want to include those.

Of course you won't see the actual timber framing - you have to model that separately or use a wall accessory (add-on).

Barry.

Sounds good to me Barry.

I haven’t even used a complex profile wall yet with Archicad but I now have a good excuse to try it out now. I will have to also find out what modifiers are and how they work.

I definitely do not want to have problems with openings either.

I usually draw 2D cross boxes on my cross sections for wall plates and noggins.

It’s good to hear from experienced users like yourself.

Thank you for your excellent advise once again.

You can add wall plates as well in the complex profile (although you won't get the representative X in section, as well as eaves lining.

If fact anything that is longitudinal can be included in the complex profile.

And all those blue lines are the modifiers that can stretch heights and widths in individually placed walls - all based on just one complex profile.

Barry.

You can stretch in section or 3D.

Make sure you are activating the correct tool in the pet palette.

Thanks for the screenshot Barry.

It would be very nice if we had something like this inside Archicad for creating an automatic brick ledge. Good for the US, Australian & NZ users. Please see this video below.
