It looks to me as if the roof does not cover the entire plan.

You will also have to SEO the internal walls to the external sloping walls.

I am new to this software and I'm trying to create a two story dome. When I trim the interior walls to the roof the outer edge of the walls cuts off.

When I try to use the solid element operations, there is still part of the wall floating in the air.

Can someone please explain to me why this is happening and how to fix this?

Trim to Roof retains what is below the roof. Anything above or extending beyond the roof on plan is cut back to the edge of the roof.

With the SEO your walls extend beyond the roof and therefore leave the extra uncut by the roof downward extrusion. Shorten the walls to be fully within the roof and the floaters will disappear.

They are two different cutting methods.

Yes, I know they are two different cutting methods. Both ways do not give me the outcome that I want. If I shorten the walls then they do not extend to the ceiling inside.

It looks to me like you are not modeling the building relative to the building materials that would be used to construct the desired geometry. Modeling is a lot easier when you're working with pre-manufactured materials (dimension lumber, steel framing...) What are you making the building with?
