S/E is a snapshot of the model. Work in 3D window, model fully, otherwise you are forfeiting the advantages of the Virtual Building concept. Columns and shutters belong to the model. If you forgot a shutter on one of the windows, for example, use the eyedropper and syringe to transfer the settings from a window that has it (can be done in S/E too)

If you are copying from the S/E to the plan, the pasted stuff is lines.

What is it exactly that you want to do?

tom

this is indeed the way cut and paste is supposed to work in the section/elevation windows.

try duplicating and placing elements in the 3D window: all OK there!

you said that this was happening "in plan" too? this shouldn't be the case. more info?
Everything in S/E is not lines, isn't that correct? I mean I can select a railing for ex., then go to the attributes and change it's length. So that can't be only lines.

Is it only lines after you cut and paste. It just seems to me that it can't be a snapshot of the model if you can adjust the model through the elevation.

I notice that I can change objects, but I can't copy them. It's taking me a while to understand all the ways this program works.

Tom wrote:
Everything in S/E is not lines, isn't that correct?

not exactly:

section elevation windows can consist of both 3D <S></S>and<E></E> 2D elements, but the rule is that you can't <S></S>create<E></E> 3D elements in a section/elevation window.

depending on your workflow methods, this is either a help or a hindrance. we use it as a feature at the point when the 3D building is 95-99% designed to drag a copy of the entire sec/elev snapshot up to the ordnance reference level to work up into full production information drawings . . . i know, not quite true 'virtual building', but we can't quite efficiently achieve the exact drawings we want with archiCAD yet - it's nearly there though!
