I don't see all of what you are doing; but what if those Slabs were modeled as Beams or Columns ?

Perhaps it would be better to edit that in a 3D view than in a Section since the elements are Slabs ? ?

It says width so it could be to stretch it to the sides, if so then agree that the 3D window is the place to edit it neither floor plan nor section/elevation are the correct viewpoints for that workflow.

I'd would like to disagree here. 🙂 Sometimes it's just so much easier to edit in the section view. Often enough there are pesky sitatutions where it is hard (or even impossible) to edit in plan / 3D. (just had one of them right now in a tricky roof situation).

I'd love if I could stretch those slabs sideways in sections!

Stretching in section makes sense for a simple rectangular slab.

I know that this is an an ambiguous operation, or could be. But I think it would be solvable. For straight segments that would be still trivial.

Again, I'm no purist in that regard. I want to make adjustments in the best view, and often enough that is neither floor plan nor 3D.

I pop out my 3d window for workflow purposes, and it saves time but,
quickly adjusting ceiling, roof, and floor slabs in section
detailed cabinetry edits where it is hard to find which of the 4 slabs stacked on top of each other is the correct one to adjust.

The only? viable reason to not is extra nodes/curves, which I assume is why beams are adjustable but slabs are not, but awareness of elements we're editing is a requirement to use Archicad as a professional, so I pose the why not? question also.

(*maybe width doesn't adjust if there's extra nodes/curves?)

Hi @architect,

you're right, we need this enhancement for element edit via all views.

But I think it's not only for the reason you have mentioned, sure you've your way of workflow which you feel comfortable while following.

At all, here's a glimpse about how to distinguish the element you want to edit in floorplan or 3D views.

1) From section view you can go to 3D view.

2) The element is selected in 3D view.

3) You can show only your desired element in 3D view.

4) You can also retrieve your whole 3D view.

5) Rather, you can select the targeted element in 2D Floorplan.

6) So, here's your element & you can edit it easily & professionally in 2D & 3D views until we can achieve that consistently in all views.

... and why stop there? Why can't all the Architectual Elements (wall, column, beam, slab, roof...) have the same functionality? And it would also be useful to also have a Super Element that has ALL of that functionality, and also includes all the functionality of Morphs and the Mesh as well.

@architect wrote:

The only? viable reason to not is extra nodes/curves, which I assume is why beams are adjustable but slabs are not, but awareness of elements we're editing is a requirement to use Archicad as a professional, so I pose the why not? question also.

Beams and walls have a 'length' reference line which is why they can be stretched in elevation.

Slabs do not have a length reference line to stretch.

I’m sure that if it was that easy to do for the code writers they would have done it all by now.

If you could convert all your elements to have this functionality then cool. Morphs are very difficult to edit so that is not really the way to get around it.

This question is for the code writers: Why Not ?
