Yes, it prevents the accidental errors when dealing walls but I've to be able to select them individually without a marquess then activating the tool & CTRL+A or hovering over the door/win itself to select it.

Here's Revit is doing it smoothly; I think it's the time for creating doors & windows in separate layers while keeping their attachment to the wall.

Hi all, if anyone knows why door, window, wall end & corner window can't be selected directly by the selection window, while the object (chair) & the opening can be selected? Thank you in advance.

It's not just the window selection, you can't select them with ⌘+a either, unless you "activate" the tool first. This makes me think it has to do with the one thing these elements have in common; They must be hosted on walls, unlike objects such as chairs that can be placed independently.

Archicad likely prioritizes the selection of the host (the wall) over its dependent elements, meaning that when using a selection window, it interprets the input as selecting primary (standalone) elements rather than hosted components. This may be a safeguard to prevent unintended modifications, ensuring users don’t accidentally alter doors or windows when working with walls. Its probably similar reason why you cant select the subcomponents of a stair, railing, curtainwall tools.

I remember noticing this behavior when I was first starting out and feeling that it was unintuitive. However, it quickly became second nature, and I now see why its a useful safeguard—especially for beginners.

The opening is a new tool and although similar to a window, does not belong to the wall in quite the same way.

It will have been programmed differently and is probably why you can select it by sweeping an area.

Doors, windows and wall ends belong only to a wall and must be selected individually or by selecting the wall they belong to (they will move or delete with that wall).

Or you can place a marquee, activate the window/door/wall end tool and press CTRL+A (or the mac equivalent).
