Could you place a Niche over your window? Not idead, but then you can then define the Niche Edge Surface. The Opening Tool should do the same thing with it's Edge Override.

Ling.

ps. Actually, your issue is just with the sides, not all edges so this will not quite work... I have always done this sort of insert with a seperate wall and a SEO...

Could you change the default surface of your inserts Building Material?

Hi.
How can I change surface on specific edge with window/door of Complex Profile (wall)? (image 1,2)

I have an complex wall profile that has a main constriction wall and an outer layer. Outer layer is composed of 2 materials - top and bottom wooden panels and a stripe of plaster in between. I want to add a window that fits exactly to 2 edges in between wooden panels (basically a gap in plaster stripe). How do I configure inner window surfaces to stick to a visible parts of respective materials?

I saw this topic https://support.graphisoft.com/hc/en-us/articles/28399880744977-How-to-change-the-surface-of-a-specific-edge-of-my-complex-profile, but I can't apply this for openings. The only way I can get it to look correct is by stacking three walls on top of each other, but I really don’t like this approach (image 3).

I need accurate material calculations, so I would really appreciate any help or guidance on how to properly build this type of wall (image 4).

Thanks in advance!

The doors and windows can only recognise the wall surface at the anchor point of the door/window.

They do not monitor the surface for the entire height.

So you have to place tiny columns, walls, slabs, morphs, what ever works best for you to create the different sides (no, they are not associated to the door/window).

You could try a separate opening and make it slightly wider than the door/window and you should be able to control the edge material of that opening.

Or you can dabble in GDL, but I would not recommend it with the Graphisoft objects.

A separate opening object will do the job, but again it is not associated with the window (you can't even group them together).

And you could make it a niche if you did not want to affect the inside material.

The issue there is the top and bottom edges are not the same as the side edges in the OPs case. You could get pretty close by shifting it like 1mm off the excluded side, depends on how accuracte accurate is...
