3d view move wall to set distance from alt shift point.

Hi,

I'm trying to move a parapet wall so it is 450mm from the wall below. In AC28 I select the wall shift drag it so it stays in line then move the wall to the corner and tap alt to relocate the origin. AC crashes.

Tried it in AC 29 that I have just installed. and it starts to drift off into the distance. Awesome!! This all worked better years ago.

Strange happenings indeed.

You should report the crash to your local support.

Complete the bug report, take note of the number and ask them to investigate.

There is no need to reset the origin.

Drag to the point you want to reference from.

Don't click, just hold the mouse there.

Then type D450- then ENTER.

That will move the wall back 450mm in the direction you came from.

Strange indeed. The d distance option doesn't do quite the same thing, it sets the distance from where the item is being moved, not from a selected point. Say if my wall is at an odd distance from where I want it to be, I have to work out the distance I want it to be moved.

It will move the distance from where your mouse is when you press "D".

That is why I said "Drag to the point you want to reference from" - the corner you want to measure from.

If you then typed D450 ENTER it would move 450mm from the point you dragged from in the direction of your mouse.

If you then typed D450+ ENTER it would extend by a further 450mm in the direction you moved from.

D450- ENTER and it and it will move back towards where you moved from by exactly 450mm - so it will be 450mm from the corner.

The + or - after the distance is very important.

It will add or subtract from your current cursor location.

You can also use X or Y to constrain in those axis.

Thanks Barry, I like that method. It's still not quite as flexible as what I have always done. I managed to get it to work and screencaptured it. This method used to work really well years ago but has gotten worse over time.

The shift to lock the plane of movement used to work better but now seems to not lock the plane half the time. Not sure if it's just the way I'm doing it.
