Hello everyone,

I’m writing to ask for information about an issue I’m encountering when using Zones together with Renovation Statuses in Archicad.

I apologize in advance if this question sounds obvious. I haven’t been using Archicad for a long time, so I’m trying to understand whether this is due to my lack of knowledge or if it is an actual limitation of the software.

Here is a simple example.
I have a floor plan with internal partition walls that are part of the existing condition, but in the project they are demolished and rebuilt with a different layout. I would like to use Zones in an “automatic” way to:

correctly calculate room areas in the existing state

then update or create new Zones for the final project state

The partition walls therefore have different renovation statuses (Existing, To Be Demolished, New Construction), and they are displayed correctly when switching renovation filters.

The problem is that when these walls change their renovation status (from Existing to Demolished or New), Zones no longer recognize them as boundaries.
As a result, even if the rooms are clearly separated from a design point of view, Archicad calculates a single large Zone.

For example (simplified case):
if I have a 10x10 plan divided into multiple rooms by internal walls, when those walls are not set as “Existing,” Archicad returns a single Zone of 100 m² instead of multiple separate room areas.

My question is therefore:
is there a way to make walls with “To Be Demolished” or “New Construction” status act as automatic Zone boundaries, depending on the active renovation filter?

Operating system used: Windows 10

Hi, i think you should create a zone for each situation and assign the corresponding renewal filter to each zone as well.

Check the Renovation Status of your Zone. An Existing Zone will not recognise a New Wall, etc. If a room is changing size or layout, you should be using a seperate Zone.

Bug or Feature: Existing Zones will not recognise Demolished Walls so if you are using Renovations Filters to rebuild or refinish a wall you will need a Demolished Zone and a New Zone. Maybe we will get Renovation Filters for Composites in AC50...
