At least the impression that I got from the original image it that it should surround multiple windows.

A single window is relatively easy, I have done that myself.

I guess you could do it per single window with an option to turn the sides off (which is also what I have done for my windows).

Then they can 'link' when placed next to each other.

I have this little window awning that I want to be able to change with the width of the windows. Is there a way to do this parametrically so I don't have change it everytime I change the window size?

Thanks,

Claudia

Operating system used: Windows 11

Not if they are all separate windows.

You could create an object that becomes a macro for a single window and it will adjust as you change that window.

But you will need to now a bit of GDL scripting and it will only work for one window.

I would just keep it separate and adjust as you need to.

Is that window box just a morph you have saved as an object and placed infront of the wall?

https://community.graphisoft.com/t5/GDL/Create-parametric-GDL-pipe/m-p/699951#M8396

Gemini can apparently script a stretchable pipe, it could probably script a stretchable box. Pretty sure there are a couple of other examples around here of people using GPT and Claudia for basic things.

I don't think a stretchable box is the real problem here.

That would be quite easy to do.

The problem here is the original poster wants it to span around 3 or 4 windows and have it adjust as those window sizes are changed.

that would be a challenge.

using gemini , i created this code, it works well , just change the building material name :

<LI-CODE lang="markup">! --- Dimensions & Settings ---
! A = Overall Width (System Parameter)
! B = Overall Height (System Parameter)
thickness = 0.05
depth = 0.60

! --- Surface / Building Material ---
building_material "Concrete"

! --- Orientation ---
rotx 90

! --- Parametric Box Construction ---
prism_ 10, depth,
    ! Outer boundary (using A and B)
    0, 0, 15,
    A, 0, 15,
    A, B, 15,
    0, B, 15,
    0, 0, -1,

    ! Inner boundary (subtraction)
    thickness, thickness, 15,
    A - thickness, thickness, 15,
    A - thickness, B - thickness, 15,
    thickness, B - thickness, 15,
    thickness, thickness, -1</LI-CODE>

then , you can call this code in the window object at he top level , the code uses A and B variables from the window to follow it's dimensions.

PS : i'm a GDL Newbie , i don't code , but , whith AI i created a dozen of great working gdl objects for my daily wor k ,just by describing what i need to geminy , and add instructions step by step , ex : create the shape, add parametricity , add hotspots etc

Ah, so when they change any of the multiple windows within it, it streches to accommodate... I feel like you might be able to achieve that in a limited fashion with a wall addon looking at the coordinates of the wall openings, but that is way down the API rabbit hole... Maybe @Hmooslechner might have an idea if it is possible since he's made a wall addon before.

You either need to learn GDL scripting and script it your self - not a small task but quite easy when you know what you are doing.

Or you can try with AI as others have mentioned in posts here.

I have not dabbled with AI recently but people seem to be getting results.

I am sure AI can create a stand alone object as Ahmed_k has shown, but I am not sure about it being linked to your window objects.

That would require extracting libraries and adding as a macro.

Then if ever the library gets updated you have to do it all over again.

I have my own objects and don't use the Graphisoft ones, so there is not issue with updates for me.

I would explore the casing options in the windows as Ling has mentioned.

The object i shared can be linked as a macro, and it inherits the size of the window,

As Barry said, after each library migration, you should update the library and relink all your macros,

I think from your screen shots, you don't need a separate object. You can just set your exterior trim to 1"x1' or something like that. @Lingwisyer is on the right track, from what I can tell...
If it does need to be a separate element, as far as I know, there is no default 3d object that will associate with the window. Labels are associative, but only 2d... Maybe there is an object subtype that can be similarly associated but include a 3d script. I'm not aware of a solution like that though.
And for as simple as this design is, you could make a stretchable segmented beam that could be snapped into place and updated as necessary in a matter of minutes.

Or... you could script out a full custom window (or use library part maker) that included the shade box and wallhole parameters you are looking for
