Hi there, I am trying to import an object into ArchiCAD but it’s slowing down the whole software because it’s got a high polycount I think. Please let me know how to fix this.

thanks,

claudia

What kind of object is it?

We built our tool so that you can quickly generate a 3d object. In the process you can control polygon count.

https://vktrs.co/tools/image-to-gdl/

If you need to keep the original object just need a lighter version, there are different tools. Modelport, lightobject.app, Mootools polygon cruncher or Blender are the few I found most useful.

If you have Rhino, you can open the object there, and use the ReduceMesh command to reduce the number of polygons, then you can import that as an object.

https://docs.mcneel.com/rhino/8/help/en-us/commands/reducemesh.htm

At least that is what i usually do.

If you don't have Rhino, you can download Blender, and apply a decimate modifier and merge geometry by distance, then you can import that as an object.

Autodesk also offer a free program called meshmixer.

I can't say I have tried it for reducing polygons, but I did notice that it can do it.

And I am unsure what file format for objects it can open.

You can also convert the object to a morph in Archicad, reduce the polygon count and then re-save as an object.

Modelport is a great add-on for polygon reduction. I have seen people use rhino+grasshopper with great success as well. You can also convert to morph and use the modify morph segmentation (design > modify morph) option, this can be a mixed bag; sometimes it doesn't reduce polygons much, and often results in larger objects, or if you keep it as a morph, it may be heavier on the file than the object.

do you have a link for the object you imported? most of the time, I just build them from scratch with morphs/shells/beams/etc, and save/script a custom object... at most, it takes me 3 hours, and I get to control the polygons, appearance, attributes, etc.
