If in the middle of a Drag command you hit "Alt" or "Ctrl-Alt", Drag turns into Drag a Copy or Drag Multiple Copies.

You can tell by the small "+" or "++" by the cursor. Pressing Alt or Ctrl-Alt toggles this on and off.

Our office found it so useful, no on actually uses the "Drag a copy" command any more.

It's actually "Ctrl" or "Ctrl-Alt" isn't it, but that doesn't seem to be the problem Roolio is having. As I read it, "drag a copy" is occurring when not wanted (or invoked) and can't be un-invoked (i.e. hitting "Ctrl" again to get back to simple Drag command).

That's right and if for example, you use ctrl+' to fit in window during your drag, that ctrl will ~inadvertently~ make a copy.

Keep in mind that the ctrl and ctrl+alt modifiers are toggles, so hitting them again will disable them.
Yes I got that (Ctrl Alt) the wrong way round. Alas this problem still plagues many of us, and the only way round it is to hit the Ctrl + Alt then Ctrl + Alt again to cancel out.

It is annoying.

Also, I like selecting items then using the keys cause if you miss the elements you have selected, you lose the selection but if you miss the items after using the keystrokes you still retain the selection.

and

if you want to move/copy using a relative point you cannot do it using the 'drag with the pointer then Ctrl or Alt method'.

Raoul

So when is it getting fixed then?

If you have mapped a zoom command to a Ctrl+something, when you Drag an item and then zoom to see precisely where to place it, the command transfors into Drad-a-Copy. Sometimes hitting Ctrl again does not change it. A workaround I found is to keep Ctrl pressed till you place the item where you want to.

My advice for zooming is to map the command to a single buttom <S></S>without Ctrl<E></E>, which you can do in AC9 (at last).
