You can rotate your beam on its axis so it is effectively laying on its side.

Hi everyone, I need some advice on managing beam end cuts in Archicad.

I have a beam that, in plan view, meets a wall that is not perpendicular to the beam axis. I therefore need the end face of the beam to be cut at an angle in plan, following the angle of the wall, instead of remaining at 90° to the beam axis.

I know that it is possible to change the inclination of the beam end in the other direction, creating an angled cut visible in section, but I haven't found an equivalent option to change the angle of the end face in the horizontal plane.

So my first question is: is there a way to directly adjust this angle while keeping the element as a native Archicad Beam?

If this is not possible, is there an alternative solution that would allow me to model the correct geometry using another element type, for example a Slab, while still being able to include and schedule it together with all the other beams in the same Interactive Schedule?

The goal is to achieve the correct geometry without losing the ability to manage all the beams together in the same schedule.

I’m attaching an image to better illustrate what I mean and the type of angled cut I’m trying to achieve.

Thanks!

Sistema operativo utilizzato: Windows 10

Operating system used: Windows 10

Thanks for your reply, Barry.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough in my original post. I had already considered the solution you suggested. I was wondering if there was a cleaner and more direct way to adjust the end angle in plan, but from your answer I understand that there probably isn't one.

In addition, when using a Complex Profile, this method would require rotating the Complex Profile itself in order to keep the beam section in the correct orientation.

This could work as a workaround, but it would also create another issue in the schedules: the beam width and height values would effectively be swapped, which could make the schedule less consistent with the other beams.

Thanks again for the suggestion!

<STRIKE>Why would you need to swap them? What is the issue with rotating another 90 degrees?</STRIKE>

Oh, I see what the target is now... Is there any issue using a dummy beam on the axis of your wall to intersect with? Have to hide it when using things outside of rectangular shapes through...

Once the beam is rotated, you can adjust the end angle.

But you are correct, the height and width will be wrong in the schedule.

3D length is based on the axis length I believe so will vary a little as well.

And yes, a complex profile would have to be modelled rotated by 90°.

I wonder if something clever could be done with properties and expressions to swap the height and width if the beam is rotated.

Only thing is then you can't schedule the height and width for beams, you would have to schedule the new properties for the swapped height and width.

I just don't have the time to test at the moment, but it would start making things complicated.

Barry.
