Hi, im currently struggling on modelling a wall finish element, i usually called it U channel wall reveal. so the issue is, i kinda understand on how to make it by using an object alongside the wall then use substraction command to create the reveal then later hiding the object layer thats used to cut/substract the wall. then use another complex profile for the U channel to cover the reveal. but, is there another better or more efficient way? so i dont need to create 2 elements just to make a single reveal+finish

Operating system used: Windows

If you don't need the U channel itself, but only the cut with a different surface on the cut faces; and if they are planar walls (don't remember what happens in curved walls, but I suspect it will not work): the W Niche window does the job for straight horizontal and vertical reveals.

For other designs (diagonal or curved reveals, on a planar wall) the Opening tool may do the job.

What about a complex profile beam for the channel?

I am not sure if it will need an 'air space' building material in the centre - I think it will.

So long as the building materials for the beam are stronger than the wall, it will trim the wall away automatically.

The layer that the beam is in and the wall is in need to be the same layer intersection group number.

Otherwise they will not trim each other.

Just make sure the channel and airspace building material strength is higher than any building material used in the wall.

The beam will automatically cut the wall.

If your reveals are all horizontal, you could also do this with a complex profile wall.

I find using walls and complex profile walls can cause the reference lines to adjust, depending on how the walls touch each other.

Walls and complex profile beams will interact with each other but will not trim their reference lines.
