Railing break mark

Hello,

I've been having this issue for a long time, and I figured I wouldn't have anything to lose by asking here for a possible solution.

When dealing with rails that have their end nodes at different levels, and the floor plan needs to show a break mark, I never know whether that break mark will be editable or not. What I mean is that the three handles I've marked in the screenshot don't always appear. Does anybody know what might be causing this?

I have a rail that shows the break mark, but I can never access those three handles to change its parameters (position, angle, width, etc.). Then I use the eyedropper tool to pick up the rail settings and create a new one under similar conditions, and this time the handles work fine.

It just drives me crazy. I don't know what determines whether those handles are available or not.

Are you saying that the Break Mark is sometimes graphically editable and sometimes it is not? I am checking this in Ac29, but it is never editable for me. I was thinking maybe it depends on whether the "Use Break Mark Settings of Associated Stair" checkbox is checked or not, but for me, it is never editable graphically, I always have to go to the settings dialog and change the various values there.

Sorry for the late reply. I’ve attached some images to hopefully clarify what I’m trying to say.

Yes, Laszlo, I am saying that the Break Mark is sometimes graphically editable and other times it is not. The problem is that I don’t know what influences this behavior.

In my example, there are two railings that have the same settings and similar overall geometry. A was created by picking up the properties of B and creating a similar geometry.

B is from the original project. A works as I would expect: if I select it and click Edit, I can click on the Break Mark, and the little handles appear, allowing me to edit it graphically.

For B, this is not the case. After I click Edit, no matter what I do, I cannot select the Break Mark in order to access those handles.

The problem is that I don’t know what makes the difference between the two.

I am not sure exactly what causes this, but it seems a copied railing leaves the hotspots in the original location.

So they are there somewhere, you just don't know where.

When I place with a stair with a railing it is associative and the handles are as you expect.

Drag a copy of the railing and it breaks the associativity, but the hotspots stay related to the stair.

Drag a copy of the copy and the hotspot remain where the stair was.

You can even delete the stair, so it seems they are not linked to the stair in any way.

Only when you draw a new railing and adjust the height of one end, do you get the hotspots as they should be.

ALT+click to get properties is fine.

Now if I drag that new railing with the correct hotspots, the hotspots remain in the original position.

So, it seems if you drag a copy of the railing, it does not move the hotspots.

I don't know of any way to reset them.

Only drawing a new railing seems to work.
