<R>I am currently helping a medium sized firm learn ArchiCAD. They have several AC 9 licenses, so I am beginning in AC 9. but.... I know that the upgrade to AC 10 won't be far off. Personnaly I don't have AC 10 so I have not done the transition.

Can anyone tell me if it will be better to start the new archicad users with the idea of linked drawings or separate PMK's? From what I have read, the transition to AC 10 is a little more difficult with separate PMK's. Is this assumption correct?
Linked drawings since the PM layouts reside within the same AC file and you cannot publish pmk files anymore. Also avoid putting to much emphasis on the shortcuts for AC09 since they changed for 10.
Another recommendation is to download the AC10 demo.

It seems quite pointless training anyone on archicad 9 anymore!

Where can you download the archicad 10 demo from? Is it a full working demo that people can play around in?
The demo version is available from most local re-sellers
in most places except, apparently, Australia.
If it is like the AC 9 demo, it is fully functional except copy, save,
teamwork functions, and a few others are disabled.

I tend to agree with Hunter. The things that are the same
in 10 as in 9 are as easily learned in 10 as in 9.
The things that are different from 9 just have to be unlearned and then
relearned again in 10. So if everyone is starting out
learning AC and the office plans to move to 10
why not start everyone in 10 and skip the unlearning part.
I am talking about a site where we can download an archicad 10 demo even for evalutaion purposes. Without being a student or going to a reseller! Welcome to my digital life.... so it goes. Actually it is quite exciting to introduce new users to this program. Even 9 has much to offer the new user. Teaching has helped me sharpen my own knowledge of the program and I learn things from every small question. It is costly to purchase 10+ keys. I am glad the firm has made the move.

GS decided that for 10 the demo, educational, Univ and commercial version are the same installer. Since GS has not posted a demo download link and since the link you receive for the download will give you the choice to install in demo mode besides the educational. The ethical dilemma can be solved by having a friend that is a student register, he will receive the link, you install in demo mode because your friend has decided that AC is such a great program that he wants you to try it.
And hopefully everybody is happy.
Per GS info the student id is needed to get the full year edu license not for the original registration.

I am surprised John is alllowed to do that, but it is a very good thing IMHO. The more people our software is made available to, the better. I simply cannot understand these people (and I'm sure there's a few here in Australia too) that relate demo-ing ArchiCAD to test driving a Ferrari, in that the more people who try it, the less valuable it becomes. Sure ArchiCAD may perform like a Ferrari, but it doesn't have to be marketed like one. We need to market it to the masses, not the elite. It's performance will only increase with more copies sold because it will give GS more resources. Anyay, off the soap box...

Cheers,
