Well thanks Drodje. I am sure this is how I was actually taught how to do it the first time - many moons ago! I do agree that basics like these are missed by so many users, much too often.

What we need is a central and comprehensive, tip storage bank!

<R>I've got a bunch of objects (rafters) on my roof story, which I want to move down to a lower story. (I cut from upper story and paste to lower)

Is there away to move them without <S></S>changing their elevation from project zero<E></E>?

Thanks
Marc</R>

As far as I know, any time you cut/paste from one story to another, Archicad retains the height relative to the current story. I do not know of any way to retain the height relative to absolute zero, though it would be nice.

One potential workaround would be to paste them, then hit Undo and immeidiately after Redo. This will select all the elements just placed, so you can use the Elevate command to move them vertically. It's not ideal, but at least should help you get your rafters at the right height.

Thanks Tom.... I've done the same work-around in the past.... just hoping there was a simpler way. Make a wish.
after selecting just change the elevations before cutting, at least you will only have to select them once that way

Or as you paste they will show up in a marquee. There's your chance to elevate them by the height of the story you moved them to. After you elevate them, you can hit the OK button or just click outside the marquee, and they will paste in.
This guy really has a talent for blindingly obvious solutions ... once he finds them <E>😉</E> Great tip, Link!

On top of the above - you can do any command from the Edit menu while the paste marquee is on, using the keyboard shortcuts ...

I also find that I often need to copy/paste between the top story and roof, so, I usually set them to the same elevation. I also do this with foundations and slab plans sometimes.

It depends on the building, but it really makes sense when the top floor is an attic and really is at the same elevation.
