Step one is to configure the wall accessories object to display what you want to see and how you want to see it. Be sure you save to Favorites when you get it how you like it so it wont take so long to configure it next time.

Be sure you assign a layer for the wall framing you can turn on and off as needed.

Below are some pictures of some settings that work. with 8.1.0 R2 USA (2284)

Draw walls-select walls-click Extras-Accessories-Wall Accessories-select the Wall Framing object-configure-save as a Favorite-click OK-your cursor will turn into an eye-click anywhere on the screen and it will generate your wall framing. To control the display just turn toggle the layer the objects are on, on and off.

<T>In my brief training, I remember being able to toggle between showing studded walls and 3-d walls without studs. We go to walls accessories (the only place where we see anything for studs) and for some reason, studs only come if on half the walls and mirror imaged on the opposing walls> What am I doing wrong?
Steve answered this: as in most* things, layers and layer combinations control visibility. Your walls and the wall accessory should be in different layers.

Karl

* "most" rather than "all", since the visibility of some things is controled by Display Options. Not relevant here though.

Hello all,
I have created a Favorite of the Extras-Accessories-Wall Accessories- with the settings that I desire.

It seems that the Favorite must be saved using the Favorites "button" at the top of the Object dialog box (above the "Preview and Positioning" Pull-down).

So I have saved my settings for a 2x6 wall.

How can I use these similar settings to now create a Favorite for any other walls (ie. 2x4 wall..) It does not seem to work to Ctrl-Alt settings in the dialog box, like you can with other objects.

Okay, I actually figured it out. Just click of the favorites box> open previously saved Favorite> oK. Modify settings> Save as new favorite (using the Favorite button at the top).

In the "Favorites Window" they seem to appear After any objects including Lighting objects. Although they seem to not have any use in the Favorites Window since it seems that these Favorites are accessed from within the Wall Access. Object dialog box.

Also it seems that if you have the 2D representation in the Parameters set to Show Framing Elevation, the elevation will be Stated Distance from the framing center using the reference line as the start point. But if the wall has been Modified using the Edit > Modify Wall> Reference Line..., the side That the Elevation is created seems to be based on the reference line to which the wall was originally drawn.

Also a Wish (I believe) : Viewing the Framing in 3D is Nice but it would be better if the Vertical Studs could have a different material spec than the Horizontal plates and Headers, so that opposing Grain direction material could be used. Making it more "real-life".
