<T>When I create a section/elevation, and specify a limited horizontal range, with marked distant area, the marked distant area line does not show up. It is also difficult to control; when tryinig to adjust it with the radio button the marker itself will move or mirror to the marked distant area. What am I doing wrong?</T>

It sounds like your Display Option for the marker depth is turned off.

Once you turn that on, you get a hotspot that you can drag around. The Marker extent never plots, so you can leave it on all you want.
