What is the best way to tile a bathroom?

I ask this question since I imagine we all need to do this at some point.

What are the alternatives for tiling a bathroom when you really want to control where the tiles fall, and show thicknesses?

Typically, I have always just done vector hatch fils in 2D, and then made a lib part built from slabs the drawing if I really want/need to show the tiling in 3d.

Having parts/objects that on a render layer for this purpose is fine, just wondering what my fellow Archicad users do.

I have seen it done 3 ways

1. A fill on your elevation, good when you only put in minimum tiling for building requirements. Not useful if doing rendering or need thickness.

2. An object that you can amend where your first tile starts, we had our showers, baths etc created with the tile object in them. Bit fiddly but looks good.

3. Thin walls with a material/fill attached. Only Used this method on a few houses I converted for a company, I didn't like it much.

You can also use Interior wizard ... will update, qualtify etc. But only ArchiTiles will give you tile schedule with cutting included.

This might seem complex, but I am mostly happy with the result.

I know I'm using 7x7 wall tiles, 6" cove base, and 1" cap tile. I have drawn a wall section with fils showing the tiles, and select them with a polyline path to create a lib. part that has the horizontal courses. Then in elevation, I draw the 2d lines to control equal tiles on either side of the wall.

Here is my wish: I would just use a 3d vectorial hatch on the wall, like I do on the floor, but I can't seem to control its point of origin in a wall, or in a lib. part made by profiler. But I would like to...

The other dilemma is in my 3d presentation view/clarification perspective only the horizontal courses show.

More suggestions, short of making slab lib. parts of each elevation?(really tedious, might as well just draw them and be done with it. Or is it already tedious?)

Sometimes(read:often) I feel like I spend lots of time trying to get archicad to do things in a clever way, rather than just quickly drawing the thing.

The way I get around this is have an option in my objects to turn the glass off. Mainly for my shower screen. That way you see the frame and the taps and the tiles.

Woody and Julia Rock!

The Archicad shower glass panel turns off the glass if the material is set for "general", which saves the hassle of making my own.

And while I can't align the texture in a library part made by profiler, I can now put up thin walls for the tiles and control the hatch on them.

Now if only there was a nice parametric shower pan that had a curb, showed a center drain(either square or round) and showed the tiles cut as desired. Guess I'll go program it myself....
