I posted elsewhere awhile back that AC11 was running very slowly on my Mac 1.8 dual G5 and many posted in reply that they had no problems.

Well, I had upgraded my two sites to AC11 and because it was so slow both are back to AC10. For me a waste of time and money, but it looks like I will have to buy new machines anyway as AC12 will be the last version to support PPC. It does make good business sense for GS not to support PPC. but hey, just one more thing to deal with.

My son, who has followed the dark side, uses AC 11 on his 15" Intel chip Macbook pro and says it runs slow even with small files. I do know that GS has a list of things to speed up AC 11, but as I recall it only helped a bit.

So what is the deal? How can it be so slow for some and not for others?
Just wish GS had been a little more upfront on this.

<R>Today decided to give AC11 a new try! Installed the newest patches and Library updates and did all the Registry fixes I suggested by the Forum users. Started a brand new project of a 6 story building.

So far my observations are:
1. <S></S>Slow!<E></E> Much slower than AC10 on the same computer!
2. <S></S>Pictures slower performance dramatically!<E></E> Several times slower than AC10.
3. <S></S>No screen freezing during Zoom.<E></E> Fixed, thanks to a Forum advice. Some graphic card controls had to be switched off.
4. <S></S>Rubber band disappears again!<E></E> Still the same problem as before. I know it is probably my graphic card to blame, but it works OK with AC10 and AC9! Probably I have to I buy a new computer for every new AC release!
5. <S></S>Changes in the Info Box not always accepted!<E></E> Especially with Walls - thickness, width, etc.

Finally, I had to restart 7 times for a a single day! If it is the same tomorrow, I will go back to AC10!</R>

Kliment -- I'm totally ignorant in an IT sense, so I cannot make any suggestions regarding your computer configuration, but I've been using AC11 since June and <S></S>have not encountered any of your problems<E></E>, which makes me doubt it's the software alone.

I see "Cigraph" and "Cadimage" in your signature -- could this have something to do with your add-ons?

I have to agree with Laura. Having used AC11 on both Windows and Mac with a lot of people on a lot of different hardware, I've not seen the problems you describe either.

Hi Klimet,

I too had incredible performance drops in my XP SP2 system on AC10.

I tried many things when finally our IT support suggested running MSCONFIG and turning off all the startup items. Guess what no slow down in AC10 (not AC11) performance.

I am still trying to work out which start item causes the slow down. It could be Quicktime or something else. My next task when I get some time, is to turn on each startup item individually and use AC10 and see what happens.

Hope this may be of use.

This would require some extra work from you but one way to find out more about this would be to create a brand new XP install with no additional software products installed. Then install both AC10 and AC11 and see what happens. Then start installing the additional softwares, including media players, other professional softwares etc. and see which causes AC11 performance to drop and problems to appear.

The irony of progress; I use v10 on a new 24" imac - but also have an old key (never upgraded) from v7 that I keep tethered to my old OS9/G3. For most things the v7 on the G3 just smokes the newer platform. So I use that when I really need to get things done in a hurry..! At the very least it's far more responsive.
