SHINGO -

Don't forget to download the PDF Manuals for the Special Edition Library. They are found at the same URL for downloading the library. The Window manual is 40 or so pages and the door manual is another 40 or so pages. Much of the same stuff is covered in each manual, so once you have studied one, the other goes pretty fast. The manual I found to be of most interest was the "Detailer User's Guide". I worked through it and it's tutorials and will use it for detail development in my current project.

The door and window manuals are okay, better then what you usually get from Graphisoft, but many important issues are not addressed and you will just have to go by trial and error.

The manuals appear to be more PR, then a study guide, pionting out all the great new features, but leaving it up to the user to figure out how to configure the features.

A major oversight is that there is no glossary that defines the limits of each input dialog, you just have to guess and hope. You will know when you exceed the input value.... ArchiCAD will CRASH.

I hand sketched each "window dialog tab" on paper, leaving the input data blank. Then I made xerox copies of the sketches and keep track of how the data input affected the out come for each window I tried to make. Then I made a list of the limits that each dialog value would accept. I finally got some pretty nice windows and doors, but still did not have the flexiabilty found in Cadimage Door/Window Builder.

And let's not even talk about door and window schedules.

Hi Guys

Thanks for your opinions and suggestions. Perhaps I could be a bit more explanative in what I am trying to look for.

Please look at the image attached. I am looking for ways to contruct 3-panel/multiple-panel versions of this kind of window.

It's quite funny when I think about it, as this is something that feel is rather common (I have 3/4/5 panel sliding windows all over my house), yet there is nothing in the standard AC library that can allow me to create that.

Seiss Wagner: Is Cadimage DoorWindow Builder expensive to own? Do you think that the cost of it justifies its usage if I were to just create sliding windows with it?

Here is your three panel slider window by Cadimage DoorWindow Builder. You could make four or more panels if you wished. However, as is usual, all is not perfect in the virtual world of BIM.

Even though the elevation view of the window appears correct, the plan view inserts, what appears to be, a fixed mullion. See the next attachment for a plan view

You probably won't need to use anything else if you have D&WB, it covers most situations pretty well. The main gripe I have with it, as Seiss mentions above, is the way it displays sliding windows on plan, which is not what <S></S>you <E></E>want to hear.

But the 3D view is not bad at all. Unfortunately, one cannot reconcile the plan view with the elevation.... it appears to be two different windows, which is better known in the world of software as "sloppy programing"

I am sorry Shingo, I guess I was mistaken, it looks like DoorWindow Builder won't be able to fulfill your needs.
However, it is still the most versatile modeler, that I have found, for doors and windows.

Shingo:
Is it worth it? ... I'm not sure. I'm stuck halfway between using the Specical Edition Library and DoorWindow Builder. In the past, I wasted so much time trying to get special windows to look right using the AC9 Library that I purchased DoorWindow Builder. If it saved time it would be worth the cost, right? I haven't perfected using it (read: I'm wasting time with trial and error, trying to make things look right)... so no savings yet. The documentation is a bit weak (in my opinion)and a few bugs, but there is great potential.

It's $199.00 USD and you can find it here:
I wish to take issue with Stress Co, I am not selling Cadimage products, but I think the 55 page reference manual provided with DoorWindow Builder puts the documentation provided by Graphisoft for the door and window package of the Special Edition Library to shame.

I have spent far more trial and error time working with the SE9 Library then I have ever spent guessing at DoorWindow Builder. That said, let me comment; the one mistake all these companies make is that they don't provide a glossary of terms, so you never really know what they mean when they use a word like "Architrave", because they don't define it. Then by trail and error, guess and by golly, you learn what they mean, and it is such a waste of time.

I just re-reread the Cadimage Manual..... and maybe I should have said "soft" in a few places, instead of weak. ... and there's a Manual for the SE Library? ... Bottom Line for me.... (for out of the ordinary: doors, window and trims) some are easier & quicker to build using the SE Library.... are some with DoorWindow Builder.

Hi Ben

Thanks for the link. Will take a look at this SE library.

While its still downloading, I was just wondering if loading this SE library together with the standard library would cause any conflicts.
Does the SE library replace or enrich the standard one?

in order to download the library you need to read a disclaimer that tells you all of that information. you have to click to say that you have read and understood. you clearly haven't.

READ the compatibility rules!
