<T>i too am not able to get an exterior wall siding and a roof shingle (both are vectorial hatching) to display in elevation, even after following all of the instructions offered to STARTER, august 18.

the 3D vect box is checked in the elevation default settings model display, the hatching is vectorial, the shingles do display on the roof plan, and an element pen is assigned to the material's vectorial hatching.

what else is there to set up to get the hatching to display in elevation?</T>

Which materials are you using?? Also check your Model View Options and make sure that your Elevation Views, in the view map, are set to say Construction Documents or one that will show the fill.

I checked your suggestions > I do not have a "construction" view saved but the Plot View that i am using does have the Cover Fill Patterns option set to "As In settings".

The materials i am using are vectorial displayed items > Roof - Shingle 01, Asphalt and the wall siding is material for the wall Model is Wall - Siding, White, 6"; each are vectorial.

Any chance your elevation is set to Drawing or Manual Rebuild? If it's not on Automatic Rebuild, you won't see any changes. (Just checking.... Sometimes a problem like this is something minor.)

in the material settings where you are defining the vectorial fill to be used, is it set to use a global pen or the pen defined in your sect/elev settings?

if the former, maybe it is a white pen in your view and not showing? if the latter check your distant area settings as well: it could be that vectorial hatching is checked generally but turned off for 'distant' surfaces . . . of which your siding is a part.
in materials, vect hatching is set to a specific pen (20, black, .25 pt) rather than ELEMENT pen.

the horizontal range in elevation settings is set to infinite and i checked the MARKED DISTANT TO uniform pen and also checked vectorial hatching.

I still do not see vectorial hatching on the elevation.

Okay, I'll take one last guess, and then I'm out of ideas.

There is an "On-screen view options" toggle (activate this toolbar) for Vectorial hatching. If this is not checked, then you will be looking at the bitmap version. It is possible that your fill doesn't have a bitmap version associated to it, and so you wouldn't see anything. See what's going on with that toggle.

sorry richard, you don't go to the head of the class. although you do get an A for effort.
that view option has been checked all along; one of the first things i made sure of.
my last option is to send an annotated file to my reseller for a looksee and let them make sure i have everything seet up correctly.
I've been working with this issue for a while now as well and today found a partial solution - hopefully it will work for you. For my roofs, I checked cover fills on and selected the fill I wanted. Nothing would appear.

Then I selected 'use fill of surface material' and under the 'Model' dropdown made sure that a material with a fill pattern was selected (as opposed to the paint materials which have no fill type). After that, the hatch showed up in elevation.

Still doesn't explain why setting a particular fill under covers fills won't work but at least I see what I need to see now.

hope that helps!

EDIT - I've worked with this some more and it's gotten weird. I found that in floor plan (of a story I've set above the roofs) fills were shown for roofs set to 'use the fill of surface material' as well as for those that weren't set that way (which aren't visible in elevation).

But the fill pattern displayed was different for each setting - the roof set to display a material fill had a larger fill pattern.

THEN, I set a few more roofs to display a cover fill (not 'use fill of surface material) and suddenly the fill shows up in the elevations even though when I changed to that same setting while in elevation, no fill became visible.

Also, in elevation, the fill appears correctly distorted for roof placement and pitch angle, but in plan, it is not.....

very confused now....

this reply first to Richard >> i discovered this little tidbit > i had checked the box for vectorial hatching in the elevation tool/tool box thinking that it would set it globaly for any elevation as i had not selected any elevations yet. this is not the case. i discovered that an elevation(s) must be selected first and then check the vectorial hatching box. small details kill.

this for chris B > very confused, yes - but at a higher level i can assure you. i too stumble on these "funny things", but i know that for 99% of them, there is a button or switch somewhere in the software that needs adjustment. the other 12% [sic] are software glitches.
