Using the Fill Tool?

Hi there,

When using the fill tool to create a floor pattern on top of a floor slab, for exmaple a wooden/tiled floor... can someone explain why it just takes over the whole drawing? Everything in the room where the place the fill on the floor is covered by the fill.... how do I make the fill less overpowering and also not show above furniture objects? Also is there any way to make the fill pen line finer so it is less noticeable on the drawing?

The easy way is to change the "Background Fill" to pen 0. This will make the fill transparent so you only see the fill pattern.

Send to Back (Shift F5).

Change the Pen to a Pen that is Finer. See Attachment. If the drawing is to be printed or plotted using PlotMaker (recommended), than the Pen Can also be Modified there as well.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll certainly try changing the pen properties when plotting.

Unfortunately shift + f5 didn't work.... eventually a popup just appeared saying it could not go any further back?

It would be unusual to have fills covering furniture. Since library parts are above fills in the display order by default it would require a conscious effort to make this happen. I am guessing that the problem is that you have your display options set to show all fills with transparent backgrounds so that the fills are not showing 'over' the furniture but 'through' it. It is also possible that the library parts' background fill pen is set to 0, but this would also take a deliberate effort and so also seems unlikely.

Hmm this could be it, as I've not changed any other settings, this is the first time I've even used the program properly. I don't know how to change the display options for this.... can you help?

Go to Options>Display Options>Display Options... The last item "Fill Background Color:" is the one Matthew mentioned, but you should also check the settings for "Cut Fills:", "Drafting Fills:" and/or "Cover Fills" depending on the fill you are using. If this is not information to sort out the problem, then you might try posting a screen shot of what you are seeing to help clarify the issue.
