What's a "2D modeling window"?

I'm assuming you mean a plan or detail window? If so, the scale is what scale you intend to print the drawing at, so Archicad will size the text, dimensions, zones, and markers appropriately.

It's strictly for printing. It has nothing to do with the actual building elements.

To see how line weights, text and symbols look at that particular scale. Place some 12pt text @ 1/8" scale and then switch to 1/4 and you'll get it.

You may have made up a name for it, but if you want someone to help (or even to understand what you are saying) it might be more useful to use the name that is used within the program.

Archicad does not have a "2D modeling window". It has a plan window, a 3D window, a schedule window, a report window, detail windows, section windows, etc.

My 3-year old makes up words all the time. It's a lot easier if he tells us "the house in on fire" instead of "the boxy box is reddy red".

Yet you accept no responsibility... "No, it couldn't possibly by anything I'm doing! It's all Tom's fault for being mean to me!"

Sometimes you may need to ask why someone acts a certain way towards you. You, adri, seem to only be inclined to complain ("Why is this d#*& section marker not doing what I want?"), act like you own the place ("I'm going to call this whatever I want!"), and get others to do your research for you ("Why should I use the manual when the forum is here!"). You'll get no sympathy from me.

If you're going to ask a group for help, you should help the group to help you. Little things like opening the manual once in a while and using standardized terminology for program elements. Not everyone has the luxury of real training, but these two actions are free.

Wow, what's up with the aggro replies to what seems like a perfectly reasonable post? I don't find Adri's post objectionable, rude, or otherwise inappropriate. If Autocad is 1:1, which I don't know because I haven't used it for years, it seems like a legit question. If you all don't like the question, why answer it and why attempt to belittle someone with sarcastic replies on what is essentially just a discussion/help board?

God forbid I should make a mistake like calling a 2d window the modelling window or I will be likened to a child, making up words.

According to the etiquette section above, "Djordje Grujic, long time ArchiCAD user, acts as a moderator, ensuring that discussions on the forum remain professional and respectful of each other." Yet Djordje, you replied with this comment, which I find neither professional, nor respectful: "There is an activity called training."

All in all, I have found this forum to be extremely helpful, more so than tech support and much more so than Archicad-Wiki. I don't yet have the answers to the difficult questions, but isn't it more useful to foster a spirit of cooperation and respect, rather than bashing on someone with a "stupid" question?

My 2 cents,
Hi Richard and Adri,
I don't hink Tom meant to be rude, it's just his sense of humor. After a while on this board you learn about people's unique personalities. Tom is actually one of the most patient and helpful guys out there. You will learn this in just a few months. Honestly, I was really surprised at how the tone in Adri's posts came across. Which is always the problem with typing your thoughts rather than saying them. Adri came across condescending and snotty, which may have not been the intent. Anyway, Tom and Djordje are fabulous guys. You'll come to really appreciate their posts!

Guys,

The very fact that Tom or anyone else answers is showing the goodwill.

However - as in the famous answer to Life, Universe and Everything, that we all know is 42 - knowing how to ask is half of the answer.

Adri's question shows the basic lack of comprehension of the workings of the sotware, says that there was not a second of training, and that the manual is still uncut in the box, and that Help file was never opened.

It is an unspoken rule that you should RESEARCH and TRY TO FIND THE ANSWER YOURSELF before asking here. Just a search on the Forum, a search in the Help file is usually faster than logging in here.

Also, don't expect that anyone has a DUTY to answer you - everyone who does answer does so out of hers/his own free will and in hers/his own time, that is otherwise billed at whatever rates apply.

Think about that before the next time you whine about a lack of an answer to a badly put question, without any OS and Archicad version data, using abbreviations, and in general being unclear.

So - using the correct terminology, giving the necessary data, and trying to find an answer before asking all helps this community to grow and prosper, instead of losing itself in a maze of identical questions, answers and ego trips.

Thanks for the praise, Melisa, not sure I deserve it <E>😉</E>

Well said Djordje. I tried to say something like this a while back but not nearly as well. I think this should be the 1st post everyone has to read on becoming a member or poster as guest. It would hopefully go a long way to reducing the amount of redundant posts and questions that are not hard to find in the Manual or doing a quick search as you said. I for one am constantly amazed that you and Tom are able to devote as much time as you do to this forum and still hold down a job.
I don't think some people realize just how good this forum is sometimes.
