I know that I need to chose a wider pen, but I cant find where too.

click Help in ArchiCAD, search for "pens".

basically, click Options, Pens and Colors, left click a pen and edit its width. you can change whole rows or columns of pens at one time by holding down the the left-click key on your mouse and dragging it across the pens you want to change.

I should be able to tell the difference in pen thickness right. I changed it and I still cant tell.

dont forget to set your display options to True Weight for lines.
