<T>I notice that the plethora of fill patterns that were available in 6.5 are now gone. All I can select is solid fill, marker fill and no fill. I also notice that Plotmaker has them all available, however I don't want to draw in Plotmaker. I like putting a tile pattern or a parquet floor on the floor where it is supposed to go. Is this in fact the case, that I no longer have all of my fill patterns???</T>

The same multitude of predefined fills is still available. It seems that you have purged unused fills from your file somehow. If you are working on an existing project, use Attribute Manager to import the other fills from any one of the various template or sample files that ship with AC 8.x.

If you are starting a fresh project, do a New and Reset to load the default template. If the fills are still missing, then somehow you have saved over the default template file.

My best guess from what you've said...
Steve,

You must have somehow started with a stripped down file from version 7. ArchiCAD 8.x has a bunch of fills (in the US version anyway) which CANNOT be deleted. You can use Options > Attribute Manager to import all the fills you want from other projects.

Thanks for the help fellas, you are correct somehow I lost the default settings. I opened a new project and checked the factory default settings, and they are there now. I will indeed use Attribute Manager and reload from a previous file, not sure how this happened........

You guys are great!!!
I'm not sure exactly when this was changed, but now you can delete all of the fills except Brick Common, Air Space and Solid Fill.
You can delete Brick Common too (using Options>Fill Types>Clear), but deleting all your fills will come back to haunt you.

Just do a New & Reset and check what fills are being used as your Material's 3D Hatching. Lots! So you may think that you'll just delete your materials and start those from scratch too. And that'll work great until the first time you try to render any standard ArchiCAD library part and realise that it's materials are 'MISSING'. Then there's just about everything in the Extras menu that call on these fills and materials too.

I think GS should make their hardcoded fills unavailable to the end user, or at least give us the option to hide/show them if we wish. These are the CAD management issues that I continue to mention on this forum and wish for, but it usually ends up with a lot of shooting down and a lot of flames!

Good luck!

Cheers,
We certainly need better CAD management tools, such as improvements to Attribute Manager, the ability to save/load prefs, and teamwork style admin options in templates and PLNs. But that doesn't mean we need to impose specific work practices on sole practitioners who don't want it or even large offices that believe in Anarchic Architecture.

In the case of fills it would certainly be nice to be able to get a list of missing ones the way we do for library parts and textures. I would also like to see some orderliness in the indexing of fills. One possibility would be to make the empty fill #0, the solid fill #1, and reserve the numbers through 99 for ArchiCAD defaults which could be turned on or off or loaded individually but would always remain available (as they are in a new and reset).

WTF?
How is this any less imposing what I suggested? Key word being 'option', mate. Your idea is a nice expansion though.
I was just trying to guess why you would be getting shot down in flames for proposing such things. Yes, OPTION is the operative idea here. All these sorts of tools should be available but not necessary.
