Basically yes, I'm coming from Autocad. But that was some years ago. Meanwhile, I've worked using F1 shortcut in AC9 (with a reassigned shortcut, of course). In AC10, that wasn't possible anymore; but I've discovered that if I deleted the "Help" directory in Archicad's installation folder, I could redefine CTRL+F1 shortcut (the F1 shortcut couldn't be redefined, after all). Still, that worked pretty good for me. But recently I've installed the addon I was talking about and all the things went back to original state. Uninstalling the addon didn't work. Hitting CTRL+F1 brings up help menu.
So ... I guess I should try reinstalling Archicad.

<T>Hello everybody.

Does anyone know how to remove the shortcut for F1 key (the "help" shortcut).
I've managed to do that by deleting the "help" folder in Archicad's installation directory. But after installing an addon from Cadimage, the shortcut for F1 changed to its initial state. I've uninstalled the addon, deleted all info about it in the registry ... but I can't seem to solve the problem. Hitting the F1 key brings up the annoying help menu.
Could anyone tell me what to do? (maybe editing a registry key that I don't know about, or some settings in Archicad, ...)

Thank you.
Actually the Esc key has a good functionality in ArchiCAD. It escapes more and more of current input/selection steps as it is pressed several times.
It is not a bad feature in my opinion, so it should not be abandoned.

I too was used to using F1 and Ctrl+F1 for shortcuts so this is what I did:

Download a program called Key Tweak from here: http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/ (Windows 2000/XP)

This program lets you reassign your keys. I reassigned F1 to F9 and vise-versa, then set up my shortcuts in Archicad to work with F9 and Ctrl+F9 now when I hit F1 the computer beleives I hit F9 and everything works as it did before. I still retain F1 help functionality by hitting F9.

Remember to disable the program if you use the Function keys in other programs. Also this would make a really cool April 1st joke, you could really mess around with someones keyboard.

You're right Laz. One of the things I like about it is being able to escape from a command without deselecting all the objects I have selected. Not so in Autocad. I had it in my head that the original post referred to accidentally hitting the F1 key when reaching for the escape key. I'd hit esc a thousand times a day and half of them resulted in the help window...Thus, F1 in the file cabinet!! I still think one should work on the "clicking an empty space" method so as to not have to reactivate a tool every 2 seconds. Doug
