verify that the auto increment preference is turned on. You can set the ID to be anything e.g billboard-01. The next placed object will be billboard-02... billboard-n

it depends what you're doing, what you're using and why you're doing it! there are many different ways to acheive the same thing . . .

a labelling object that takes it's own increasing ID tag as the text? use the label tool to label the other element's ID automatically? (you can use 'element ID manager' to sift, sort and pull them into shape if they're already drawn . . .

or you may want a text object that just displays a series of numbers in a row/column . . .

what do you want to do?
thx gentlemen,
i have 60 rooms in 1 floor and i used the text tool to type
the number '1' and drop it to the first room, then i though i could start just copying the number '1' to the others rooms and it will increment to '2', '3' by itself....or how do u put numbers to parking spaces in parkg lots?....nevertheless, i do have plenty ammunitions now to try others avenues, i appreciate it vmuch thx again

The text tool will not respond to an ID increase. To get the ID increase to be a visible entity, an object that will display the Id would be the soulution. A good base object to try would be out of the Archicad 81 library, under General/Graphic Symbols/Signs 81 - The object Keynote Indicator_NCS. I'm not using 9 so I can't say for sure of an object in the library. This object on 8.1 has an option to use the ID as the text.

Also, by using the copy command, it will copy the ID, to get the ID increase, place each symbol as a new one.

Hope this helps.
