topic Pet Palettes Don't Appear in Modeling

<R>Hi, I am just getting familiar w/ ArchiCAD 10. We are on Mac OS 10.4.5. In going through the ArchiCAD 10 new features literature, there is a bit about the pet palettes. However, I can't seem to get the pet palettes to show up while editting withing the floorplan or 3D windows.
This is what the help page says:

<S></S>Pet Palette Movement
When standing on a node or edge, pressing the mouse button will, where relevant, bring up a pet palette on screen. When you let go of the button and begin editing, the pet palette will either follow your cursor around on screen (like a pet on a leash), or be placed in a preferred spot (and told to “stay”), depending on which pet palette movement option you specify.<E></E>

Is there a preference somewhere that may be set to have the pet palette not appear?

thanks
