I think she's just using the photo viewing app and loading the drawings in and viewing them as she would a picture.

On the other hand, she does talk about viewing 3D models. An iPhone is supposed to view PDF files and maybe it can view the PDFs with embedded 3D data.

But am I the only on who thinks that the idea of replacing 6 square feet of paper with a 3.5" screen is a little silly?

However the beautiful the iPhone is, I agree - can't see alot on that screen. Although my boss often shows clients renders on her imate - similar size screen but nowhere near as good quality as the iphone.

But, how cool would this be (if it happens):
no you're not: it is silly.

but what happens in the middle of a building site when your 0.56 square metres of paper doesn't quite show a particular junction that your 3D model embedded PDF can demonstrate?

you're right not to get carried away with the hype - but like all tools, they have their place when others aren't applicable . . . no?
"...walk into a bar and the bartender says, 'We don't serve your kind in here!'"

Sounded like the perfect opening to a joke as I opened up the thread.

I've got an iphone and you have to email yourself the pdf files and then the iphone will open the attachments....weird huh!

There are other ways by embedding links inSafari, but the email way is what was intended.

This way you can access everything on your stationary Mac without having to email anything to your iPhone:
http://www.nakahara-informatics.com/igetmobile/
I've used Iget before. It creates an SSL-encrypted connection which should be secure enough.

I use my iphone quite a bit on the jobsite, but generally more for pulling up old renderings or looking up cutsheets that get referenced during our meeting rather than wait until I'm back at the office. It allows me to make quick decisions right then and there rather than adding a day or so to every decision.

I'd agree about not pulling up drawings on that screen, it's still much faster to have a 1/2 size set in hand at least at this point.

Someday......
