<T>i apologize if this question has been asked already. is there a way to selectively turn the clean wall intersection on and off. i want the majority of walls to clean themselves automatically so i leave the button on. but in certain situations i have two dissimilar walls meeting and they automatically create a 45 degree end for each wall. see image 01. can i override the clean wall intersection for selected corners and have the metal wall butt up to the block wall. the only way i have done this is to actually leave a small gap between the walls, which causes problems down the road. any help or direction to help would be appreciated.</T>

In this situation, I would for example put framed exterior walls on one layer and then concrete exterior walls on a separate layer. Make sure your wall intersection properties are set correctly and this should solve the wall intersection problem.
I'm affraid there is no 'override mode' for cleaning intersection but as long as you won't adjust wall's construction axis' they should stay separated. Look at the attached example I made with standard AC walls.

The only disadvantage of it is a meeting line in the model.
are walls on different layers not supposed to self clean and where can you change wall intersection properties othe rthan just turning it off and on?

mdjohnson11 wrote:
are walls on different layers not supposed to self clean and where can you change wall intersection properties othe rthan just turning it off and on?

Cleaning is a function of the elements being on layers with the same intersection priority. Naturally, all elements in the same layer will clean. Putting things on different layers stops cleaning only when the intersection priority number for the layers is changed so that they are not equal (pick a value).

The online help and user guide explain how to change the priority numbers in the Layer Settings dialog...but not very well and not with adequate illustrations.

Open your online Help, click the Search button, and enter "layer intersection group" and read each of the things that shows up. Pretty minimal.

Do note: the layer priorities are on a per-combination basis. So, you need to check/verify/change them for each layer combination and then update the combination after creating your new wall layer.

Typically, a project template should have at least two wall layers just for cases such as you illustrated.

You do NOT want to pull the walls back with a slight gap, as you will end up with an extra line in elevation, will have problems dimensioning - you might get the hotspot of the wall that is not in the right place, will have problems rendering with light leaking through, and more.
thank you for your quick response. i will look at what you mentioned. hopefully it will resolve my issues. hopefully i can learn from it as well as all the help from this discussion board. i apprecaite you putting up with a newbie.
